Title: "I will mend my ways": Husband who beat his wife got a second chance, but traded a broom for the threat of jail in EKR

Title: "I will mend my ways": Husband who beat his wife got a second chance, but traded a broom for the threat of jail in EKR

A resident of the East Kazakhstan Region paid for the battery with 40 hours of community service and received a second chance from his wife. However, he is now facing a real prison sentence: the man refused to sweep the streets, claiming he was ashamed in front of his acquaintances.

The family conflict, which started with a simple quarrel, escalated into physical violence: the 38-year-old city resident hit his wife in the face. The court recognized the fact of the criminal offense and assigned 40 hours of compulsory work – cleaning the streets of Ust-Kamenogorsk.

"The convicted person was sent to perform community work. Given the autumn period, his task is to clean the territory and clear the streets of fallen leaves. He works 4 hours a day," reported Aigerim Nurgazina, a representative of the press service of the Penitentiary Department for the EKR. "This is an opportunity for the person to realize their mistake and benefit society."

The person on probation admitted that he would try to mend his ways, control his emotions, and would not raise a hand against his wife. The wife, in turn, confirmed that she gave him a second attempt to fix their family life.

However, the noble intention did not last long. The man, who is under strict control of the probation service staff in Ust-Kamenogorsk, categorically refused to perform the punishment assigned by the court. He motivated his refusal quite unusually: he is ashamed to hold a broom in his hands – in case acquaintances or friends see him.

Such a "principle" can cost the offender dearly. Probation service staff warn: evasion of work will lead to a stricter punishment.

"The punishment in the form of community service is not a resort. Our task is to ensure that every hour assigned by the court is honestly worked off," Aigerim Nurgazina explained. "If a person starts to evade, we will immediately send the materials to the court to replace the punishment with a stricter one – up to imprisonment."

Thus, the man, who received a second chance from both his wife and the court, risks trading cleaning autumn leaves for a prison term.

A Gift from the Heart: Inmates at a Maximum Security Colony in EKO Surprise Seniors for the International Day of Older Persons

A Gift from the Heart: Inmates at a Maximum Security Colony in EKO Surprise Seniors for the International Day of Older Persons

Something has happened in the East Kazakhstan region that has offered a new perspective on the penitentiary system.

Ahead of the International Day of Older Persons, celebrated on October 1st, the staff and inmates of Institution No. 18 (a maximum security colony) of the Penal Enforcement System Department of the Ministry of Internal Affairs of the Republic of Kazakhstan decided to make a truly necessary and touching gift. This time, the location for the benevolent initiative was the Ust-Kamenogorsk Center for the Provision of Special Social Services (a boarding house for the elderly, senior citizens, and persons with disabilities) in the Solnechny village.

Instead of the traditional treats and concerts, the colony's administration, with the support of local individual entrepreneurs, manufactured and delivered essential items from the Shemonaikha district that are vital for comfortable living: litter bins to help maintain cleanliness on the grounds, new, durable benches for outdoor rest, and, what caused particular delight, canes made with incredible care and attention to detail.

The canes were the highlight of the initiative. The inmates, demonstrating skill and humanity, created items that looked more like individual, custom orders than mass-produced goods.

"The grandmothers and grandfathers especially liked the canes," said Laura Aldazhumanova, an employee of Institution No. 18 of the Penal Enforcement Committee of the Ministry of Internal Affairs of the Republic of Kazakhstan. "They are thoughtfully made of wood with a comfortable, ergonomic handle. And most importantly—we took care of safety: the base is rubberized to prevent slipping. They turned out very light and convenient."

This campaign is a striking example of how institutions of the Penal Enforcement Committee are not only engaged in rehabilitation but also contribute to the social life of the region. The inmates who took part in creating the gifts were able to feel like they were a part of a useful and kind deed, and the elderly received not just inventory, but items made with heart and respect.

Kazakhstan: Probation Violator Jailed After Wife Reveals Truth

Kazakhstan: Probation Violator Jailed After Wife Reveals Truth

A brazen violation of probation rules has been recorded in the Shemonaikha district of the East Kazakhstan Region (EKR). A supervised individual, who was on the probation service registry and wearing an electronic monitoring bracelet, has been sent to prison after his wife did not conceal the truth about his movements.

The probationer, assigned the electronic monitoring device, apparently believed he could outsmart the system. His plan fell apart after a simple phone call and a subsequent check by the authorities.

Initially, a probation service officer used the monitoring system to confirm the convicted person was at his residence. However, during a control call, the offender's brother reportedly claimed the man had gone out to visit friends.

"At the same time, the mobile application showed the convicted person was home. However, upon arriving at the location, the inspector found that the bracelet was in place, but the supervised individual was not at home," noted Aigerim Nurgazina, a representative of the press service for the Department of the Penal System (DUIS) EKR.

During an interview, the violator's wife did not hide the truth. She confessed that her husband had been removing the bracelet himself, and they had gone out together at night to visit friends, and he had also left to spend time with other friends.

For this flagrant violation of the conditions of serving his sentence, the convicted person has been transferred to a correctional facility.

Furthermore, it was discovered that the electronic bracelet was damaged from attempts to remove it. Consequently, documents have been forwarded to the court regarding the violator's liability to compensate the state for the damage to government property.

"Probation service staff monitor supervised individuals comprehensively. Attempts to deceive the electronic tracking system and damage the electronic monitoring device lead to the immediate toughening of the sentence and financial responsibility," Aigerim Nurgazina summarized.

Shawarma with a "Million-Dollar Filling": Prohibited Items Found in Ust-Kamenogorsk Detention Center

Shawarma with a "Million-Dollar Filling": Prohibited Items Found in Ust-Kamenogorsk Detention Center

A 29-year-old man in Ust-Kamenogorsk attempted to break the law and disrupt order. He brought a delivery to the pre-trial detention center, and his "package" turned out to be quite unusual.

Staff at Institution #73 of the Penitentiary Committee of the Ministry of Internal Affairs of the Republic of Kazakhstan carefully inspect everything that is delivered to convicts and those in pre-trial detention. This time, a bag of shawarma raised suspicion: it seemed too heavy. When asked if there was too much meat inside, the man joked that, yes, it was a generous portion.

But it turned out that the shawarma contained no meat at all.

Inside the shawarma, instead of meat and vegetables, were two neatly packaged iPhones. The gadgets were wrapped in plastic bags.

When asked what they were, the man claimed he simply wanted to help a friend by delivering food to his buddy. He insisted he didn't know what was inside.

The attempt to circumvent "Law and Order" resulted in administrative liability for the 29-year-old man under Article 481 of the Code of Administrative Offenses of the Republic of Kazakhstan. The case materials have been compiled and sent to court, which will decide the fate of the resourceful "courier."

Detention center staff remind the public that attempting to deliver prohibited items is strictly punished, and creativity will not help.

Man Gets Two Years of Restricted Freedom After Attacking Police Officer

Man Gets Two Years of Restricted Freedom After Attacking Police Officer

An East Kazakhstan man who attacked a police officer has been sentenced to two years of restricted freedom instead of a prison term. He will now be supervised by a probation service.

The incident occurred during a routine document check. Police officers stopped a car with two men inside. One of the men, who was under the influence of drugs, refused to show his documents and became aggressive.

The situation quickly escalated into a conflict. The man inflicted bodily harm on one of the officers and then began throwing stones, aiming at the officer's head and hands.

The court found the man guilty of two charges: drug use and violence against a government official. However, the court took the circumstances of the case into account and imposed a sentence that does not involve imprisonment.

The offender is now required to regularly check in with the probation service. His rights and responsibilities, including a ban on drug use and committing offenses, were explained to him. Any violation of these rules could result in his restricted freedom being replaced with a real prison sentence.

"Our goal is not to lock a person up but to help them become a useful member of society. We will monitor his every move to prevent recidivism. This is a clear example that the justice system can not only punish but also give a second chance," commented Gulmira Bolekbayeva, head of the probation service department for the Shemonaikha district in the Department of the Penitentiary System for the East Kazakhstan region.

A United Front: East Kazakhstan Region's Penal Enforcement Department and National Guard Thwarted Over 40 Contraband Attempts into Colonies

A United Front: East Kazakhstan Region's Penal Enforcement Department and National Guard Thwarted Over 40 Contraband Attempts into Colonies

In honor of the 30th anniversary of Constitution Day, a ceremony was held in Ust-Kamenogorsk to recognize the special collaboration between the Penal Enforcement Department (PED) for the East Kazakhstan Region and National Guard military units 6699 and 5511.

This event was more than just an awards ceremony; it was an acknowledgment of the invaluable contribution of military personnel to ensuring security.

The head of the East Kazakhstan Region's PED, Justice Colonel Nurbek Kabdikarimov, honored over 15 National Guard soldiers, highlighting their exemplary service and exceptional coordination. These awards are a token of gratitude for the "behind-the-scenes" work that is crucial to maintaining order in the penitentiary system.

"Working with special contingents is a challenge we face every day," Kabdikarimov stated. He added that thanks to their coordinated efforts, over 40 attempts to smuggle prohibited items into penal colonies in the East Kazakhstan Region have been thwarted recently.

These items include mobile phones, drugs, alcohol, and other contraband that individuals try to deliver to convicts by throwing them over the fences of correctional facilities.

This statistic is impressive. Every interception is the result of the soldiers' vigilance, professionalism, and quick response. Their work, in close cooperation with PED staff, turns the colonies into impenetrable fortresses against smuggling.

The event concluded with the soldiers, marching in step, taking a commemorative photo. Their discipline and courageous appearance are the best testament that the state can count on its defenders, who are ready at any moment to stand guard over law and order.

In East Kazakhstan, a Bold Attempt to Smuggle Narcotics into a Prison Was Foiled. A Repeat Offender, Freed on Parole 10 Days Earlier, Was Arrested

In East Kazakhstan, a Bold Attempt to Smuggle Narcotics into a Prison Was Foiled. A Repeat Offender, Freed on Parole 10 Days Earlier, Was Arrested

In the East Kazakhstan region, a brazen attempt to smuggle a large shipment of drugs into a prison was thwarted. The main suspect in the case is a 26-year-old repeat offender who was released on parole just 10 days earlier. The man had traveled to the East Kazakhstan region from a neighboring one.

The man attempted to throw packages over the fence of a correctional facility in the Shemonaikha district. Prison and National Guard staff acted quickly to apprehend him. A police dog immediately located the possible hiding spots of the packages and picked up the scent of the "courier," who tried to flee the scene.

The unusual packaging drew special attention: the drug packages were wrapped in duct tape and electrodes. According to the detainee, the electrodes were supposed to "help him see where the 'package' landed so it wouldn't get lost in the grass and undergrowth." However, despite the offender's ingenuity, his plan failed. An expert examination confirmed that the seized substance was marijuana, weighing over 600 grams.

"Attempts to smuggle contraband over the perimeter are strictly suppressed. Prison staff and additional forces are on continuous duty. This is the second attempt to smuggle a large shipment of drugs we've stopped this week," said Kuanysh Konzhanov, head of Institution No. 18 of the Ministry of Internal Affairs' Criminal Executive Committee.

Now, instead of a fresh start, the repeat offender faces a new sentence. A pre-trial investigation has been initiated against him for illegal drug trafficking on a particularly large scale. The "courier" is currently in a temporary detention center in the Shemonaikha district.

"Law and order are not just words—they are the principles that guide us every day. We will continue to strictly suppress any attempts to violate the established rules to guarantee public safety and create conditions for the rehabilitation of convicts, not for their further immersion into the criminal environment."

Little Abai is Born in Oskemen: A Name Not Chosen by Chance

Little Abai is Born in Oskemen: A Name Not Chosen by Chance

In Oskemen, a joyous event occurred in the family of Beibit Oralkanuly, an employee of Institution No. 17 of the Penitentiary Committee of the Ministry of Internal Affairs of the Republic of Kazakhstan. He and his wife became parents for the third time and named their newborn son Abai.

Justice Major Beibit Oralkanuly serves as the Assistant Duty Officer to the Head of Institution No. 17 of the Penitentiary Committee of the Ministry of Internal Affairs of the Republic of Kazakhstan. Beibit, a career officer, graduated from the Sh. Kabylbayev Academy in Kostanay and has served in the penitentiary system for over 10 years.

"We thought about the name for a long time. We wanted it to be strong and meaningful. The name Abai is not just a tribute to the great thinker; it is also a symbol of wisdom and justice, which are so important in our lives. We believe our son will grow up to be a worthy person and a true patriot of his country," the young father shared.

The choice of name was particularly symbolic because the baby was born in the year when all of Kazakhstan is celebrating the 180th anniversary of the great poet and thinker Abai Kunanbayuly.

"Our parents supported us in this choice. They said that this name would bring blessings and wisdom to our home. We are very grateful to them for that," Beibit added.

Despite his serious profession, Beibit always tries to find time for his family. He notes that the birth of a third child is a great happiness and a great responsibility.

"Family is our rear, our main support. And now that there are more of us, we feel even stronger. We want to raise our children with love, give them a good education, and instill in them the most important values," he says.

This story is another reminder that even in the most demanding professions, there is a place for family warmth and simple human joys.

Headline: Ankle Bracelet and "Stashes" on His Mind: Man from Oskemen Trades a Chance at Freedom for Prison

Headline: Ankle Bracelet and "Stashes" on His Mind: Man from Oskemen Trades a Chance at Freedom for Prison

A 28-year-old man from Oskemen who was given a second chance has found himself back behind bars. Instead of turning his life around, the man, wearing an electronic ankle monitor, was roaming the city in search of drugs.

The story began in early 2025, when the man, who had been convicted of a criminal offense, was placed on probation. Senior Inspector Adelya Rinatova took on his case and provided comprehensive support. She helped him get a job at a local bakery, where he worked as a loader and delivered bread.

"We did our best to help him get back on the right path. He was rebuilding trust with his family, taking his children to parks and recreational centers, and mending his relationship with his ex-wife," the inspector said.

However, after a relapse, everything went downhill. Instead of focusing on work and family, the man began searching for "stashes." He systematically violated the terms of his probation, failed to maintain contact, and didn't show up for work. As it turned out, he had quit his job and hid this from the probation service, failing to notify them of his departure. His termination was only discovered after an official request.

The violations were detected through the daily monitoring of the electronic control system. The ankle monitor repeatedly recorded him leaving his permitted geo-zone. Additionally, the man stopped showing up for his mandatory check-ins with the probation service.

In an attempt to get rid of his "electronic supervisor," the man tried to remove the bracelet himself. He deliberately set fire to the straps, hoping they would melt. But even then, the GPS sensor continued to work, accurately tracking his every move through the city.

Ultimately, due to numerous violations, his unserved sentence was replaced with a prison term. The man has now been sent to a maximum-security penal colony for a period of 1 year and 7 months.

Tears, Amnesty, and Photos of Granddaughters: How a 49-Year-Old Woman from Kazakhstan's EKR Got a Second Chance

Tears, Amnesty, and Photos of Granddaughters: How a 49-Year-Old Woman from Kazakhstan's EKR Got a Second Chance

Her life was split into "before" and "after" by a single thoughtless act. But today, a 49-year-old Kazakhstani woman, who was serving time for fraud, has turned that page. She became the first woman in the East Kazakhstan region to be released under amnesty. Her cherished dream came true right in the courtroom. Thanks to the amnesty, she will return home five months earlier than planned.

In the minimum-security prison, where she served her sentence and worked in the household block, her days were filled with laundry and ironing. But every evening, she performed the same ritual: before bed, she would pull out a few worn photographs. They were of her granddaughters. The woman would kiss their faces, dreaming of the day she could braid their hair, take them to school, and simply be with them. According to her, these photos were her talisman and her only hope.

The path to freedom was paved not only by her remorse but also by the hard work of the prison staff. The head of her unit personally oversaw the collection of all the necessary documents for the amnesty, bringing her one step closer to her goal. Thanks to this meticulous and systematic work, Aizhan (name changed) was given her second chance.

When the judge announced the decision, her emotions overflowed. Through her tears, she managed to say:

"Finally, my dream will come true—I'll see my children and granddaughters! I want to be with them. I will never repeat such mistakes. The law is the law, and I have served my punishment. Today, I'll buy a ticket to Astana, to go home."

On that day, she addressed all Kazakhstanis with a heartfelt warning:

"Don't make reckless decisions. It's not worth it."

This story is not just news about a release. It's a story of faith, hope, and how, even behind bars, you can find the strength to start all over again.
