Report of the Minister of Health of the Republic of Kazakhstan, August 24, 2021

Slide 1

Allow me to inform you about the current epidemiological situation of coronavirus infection in Kazakhstan.

Slide 2

More than 213 million cases of CVI have been registered in the world, more than 480 thousand cases are registered per day. More than 4.4 million people died.

In four of the six WHO regions, since the second decade of July, there has been a trend of increasing morbidity.

Over the past week, the greatest increase in morbidity was observed in Azerbaijan, where the incidence increased by 63% during the week, 34% in Japan and 33% in Israel.

In Kazakhstan, the increase for the week decreased by 7%.

(For reference: in Georgia - 3%, USA - 2%. In Turkey, the increase was reduced by 16%, in Iran - 7%)

Slide 3

In the world ranking per 1 million population, Kazakhstan is ranked 101st out of 222 in terms of morbidity and mortality.

Slide 4

As of August 24, 748,851 patients with positive COVID-19 and 67,870 cases with CVI-were registered in Kazakhstan.

For reference: Including 5,631 cases of CVI+ and 38 cases of CVI- were registered over the last day, 120 of them with a fatal outcome (97-CVI+, 23- CVI).

Slide 4

All regions with the exception of the Turkestan region are in the red zone.

Slide 5

Over the past two weeks, there has been a gradual decrease in the number of cases of coronavirus infection in Kazakhstan. Over the past 2 weeks, the incidence rate has decreased by 10%.

Since August 1, the prevalence index of coronavirus infection in the Republic of Kazakhstan has decreased by 1.2 times from 1.11 to 0.93.

(For reference: in 7 regions (Akmola, Almaty, Zhambyl, Kostanay, Mangystau, Pavlodar regions and the city of Almaty) R above 1.0)

Slide 6

The employment of infectious beds is 49% (28,577), intensive care beds - 46% (2,379).

Over the past two weeks, the workload of infectious beds has decreased by 12% (from 55 to 49%).

High employment of infectious beds is noted in the Aktobe region - 68%, the city of Almaty - 61% and in the Almaty region - 59%.

Slide 7

To date, 6.4 million people have been vaccinated with the 1st component, the coverage of the subject population was 64%, more than 5.0 million people have been vaccinated with the 2nd component, covering 50% of the subject population.

The largest coverage is observed in 9 regions: the cities of Shymkent, Almaty, Nur-Sultan, Turkestan, North Kazakhstan, East Kazakhstan, Kyzylorda, Akmola and Atyrau regions.

The lowest percentage of vaccination coverage with the first dose is observed in the Mangystau region (38%).

In total, there are about 1 million 400 thousand of the first component and 940 thousand of the second component in the vaccination centers. Deliveries continue according to the schedule.

Slide 8

The analysis of morbidity showed that the main share of cases and patients with severe CVI falls on the unvaccinated population.

Thus, the proportion of cases of unvaccinated to the number of registered CVI patients since February 1 is 97.5%, while only 2.5% of vaccinated citizens have fallen ill.

A similar situation is developing with a severe course of CVI, where 95% of those in intensive care and artificial lung ventilation are also unvaccinated.

The presented data once again clearly demonstrate the effectiveness of vaccination.

In this regard, once again I want to appeal to the population and urge citizens who have not yet been vaccinated to make the right decision in favor of vaccination.

This will allow us all to preserve not only our health, but also the health of our loved ones and colleagues.

According to a realistic scenario, in September up to 5,300 cases, in October up to 1,800 cases.

Under an optimistic scenario: up to 4,200 cases in September, up to 1,300 cases per day in October.
