The construction industry is strategically important for Kazakhstan, as it performs supporting and "servicing" functions in relation to other industries.
Cement holds a leading place in the production of building materials. From 1998 to 2020, cement production increased 13 times, ready-mixed concrete 41 times, prefabricated concrete structures, slaked lime 1.5 times.
According to state statistics, the number of enterprises has increased 1.5 times since 1995, amounting to 2,184 units in 2020. It is worth noting that the main share belongs to small enterprises (95%), however, the share of each of which does not exceed 3-5%. The main concentration of companies producing construction materials is observed in the northern, southern and western regions of the Republic of Kazakhstan. The largest production volumes in value terms are in the Karaganda and Almaty regions, as well as the cities of republican significance Nur-Sultan and Shymkent.
Over the entire period of industrialization (2010-2020), the industry has developed rapidly, the share of the industry in the country's industry has increased from 1.7% in 2010 to 2.5% in 2020. The volume of production increased 3.6 times. The drivers of production growth were the implementation of the state programs "Nurly Zher" and "Nurly Zhol", as well as the active construction of EXPO facilities, which in turn contributed to the emergence of new industry players (cement, concrete, construction mortars, lime, etc.).
In Kazakhstan, the share of products with primary processing of wood raw materials prevails in the structure of production of woodworking industry products. Deep processing, especially of low-grade wood in the form of the production of particle boards, fiberboard, charcoal briquettes is practically absent.
In the dynamics from 1991 to 2020, the volume of production of the woodworking industry increased by more than 21.1 thousand times.
At the same time, during this period, the industry enterprises mastered the production of new goods, OSBI plates, laminated panels, plywood appeared on the market.
With regard to investments, we can note an increase in their volumes, so from 2003 to 2020, the volume of investments increased 6 times (from 0.6 to 3.5 billion tenge). The creation of new production facilities was reflected.
