Akim of Atyrau region Serik Shapkenov held meeting to ensure sanitary order

Issues regarding the sanitary cleaning of Atyrau were discussed at a meeting led by the head of the region, Serik Shapkenov, who recently toured the regional center and adjacent rural districts with the city leadership and personally became familiar with the situation.

As Akim of the city Shakir Keikin reported during the meeting, all work on cleaning the streets from garbage is carried out by the municipal enterprise Spetsavtobaza LLP, which held an electronic competition for the purchase of one thousand Euro containers for collecting household waste at the expense of the city budget. The winner of the competition has been determined, the contracting company will deliver and install 100 of these containers to the city by the end of this year, the rest will be installed during 2024. In addition, in 2024, it is planned to update 100 waste collection sites.

“Currently, 4,500 units of garbage containers have been installed across the city at 750 sites. To clear household waste from the city and surrounding rural districts, 72 units of various special equipment were used - 14 dump trucks, two manipulators, 16 tractors, seven vacuum machines for pumping water, four loaders, four machines for watering green spaces, 25 garbage trucks and one grader. Also, a total of 350 people are involved in cleaning the city,” Sh. Keikin said.

At the same time, he clarified that from the beginning of the year to the present day, more than 100 thousand tons of various garbage have been removed from city streets to the municipal solid waste (MSW) landfill.

Separately, the akim of the city noted the problems existing in Atyrau – these are five quarries in the Khimposelok residential area, Orken-1, Orken-2, Birlik and Birlik-2. Today, the city authorities have determined the area of these quarries and announced a collection of commercial proposals for their liquidation. In the Geologist microdistrict, it is proposed to carry out work to liquidate the quarry, and in its place to build a children's or playground.

During the meeting, the Head of the Department of Ecology of the region, Alibek Bekmukhambetov, reported that since the beginning of the year, the national company “Kazakhstan Garysh Sapary”, while conducting space monitoring in the Atyrau region, has identified 107 natural landfills, of which 91 have been liquidated to date. Moreover, most of the natural landfills have been identified in the vicinity of Atyrau – out of 59 such landfills, 53 have been liquidated in the city today, leaving six quarries remaining.

“The issue under consideration is one of the most important. There are still problems with sanitary cleaning in the city and in the region as a whole. We must systematize our work in this direction, identify our shortcomings and omissions, and take measures to eliminate them. At first glance, the city is relatively clean. But, if you turn onto a secondary street or the outskirts of the city, you will see scattered garbage. Some private fenced areas collect waste. Therefore, it is necessary to systematize the work, not relying only on “Spetsavtobaza,” Serik Shapkenov instructed.

The akim of the region also instructed to develop a specific algorithm of actions for the responsible government agencies and involved enterprises. In addition, the head of the region noted the advisability of involving deputies and civil activists in preventive and informational work with the population on maintaining cleanliness in the place of residence. The police were instructed to use all technical capabilities (video cameras) to identify residents who do not keep the city streets clean.
