Meeting of Minister of Ecology and Natural Resources of the RK with the population of Atyrau region

Today, Minister of Ecology Zulfiya Suleimenova held a meeting with the population of the Atyrau region, where information was announced on the activities of the ministry in the republic, as well as in the Atyrau region.

One of the important issues of concern to the local population is the state of solid waste landfills and insufficient landscaping. As part of space monitoring, last year 131 unauthorized dumps were identified, which were completely eliminated.

One of the reasons for the formation of landfills can be called the lack of solid waste landfills that meet environmental and sanitary requirements, in the region only 8 out of 55 landfills meet environmental and sanitary requirements (14.5%), the lack of the necessary infrastructure for the rational use of waste, in particular for the management of construction and food waste.

The head of the department recommended the akimat to take appropriate measures, including with the involvement of small and medium-sized businesses in the collection, sorting and processing of municipal waste, informing the population, as well as to develop and approve a program for the management of municipal waste.

With the introduction of the new Environmental Code, akimats have the opportunity to use 100% of the payment for emissions for environmental protection measures. And already last year the regional budget received more than 9 billion tenge from environmental payments.

Regarding the development of the water industry, it was noted that the main problems are the high level of deterioration of water facilities, which causes large losses of water. It was also said that a lot of work is being done in this direction on the construction and reconstruction of water management infrastructure and the digitalization of irrigation canals.

During the event, the population of the region raised issues of planting trees, cruelty to animals, the procedure for holding public hearings, and projects on biowaste were also proposed to the minister.
