Gabdol Slanov Regional Scientific Universal Library
On January 19, 1920, the district Department of Public Education was established as an Out-Of-School Department of the Guryev Revolutionary Committee.
This Department was divided into three sections and included the temporary staff of the central library. From now on, the central library analyze the books and begin to compile a complete catalog.
On May 15, 1926, the library became a county library in the city, with a total of 5,600 books.
In 1927, the Ural Provincial Center for Political Education approved a decree on the library. The resolution states that the demand for books in the library has increased, there is a shortage of books, the number of monthly editions is 1526 copies. On June 13, 1927, the city executive committee decided to open a central library.
Due to the change of administrative-territorial division, the district library was reorganized and on January 17, 1928 it became a district. On December 17, 1930 it was approved as a district library, on July 1, 1933 it was re-established as a district library, on February 12, 1938 it was approved as a regional library. District libraries began to be established in the districts. The regional library, guided by the resolution of the Central Committee "On the state of the library and measures to improve it," began to actively assist in raising the cultural and spiritual level of workers, to promote party decisions. At that time, the library was located on one side of the cinema "Zhuldyz", the staff was only three people.
The library replenished its book fund by receiving mail from commercial establishments and cities of the republic. The main replenishment was made through the collector of the regional library, as well as literature from Ivanovo, Voronezh, Riga, Stavropol, Tambov, Lviv and Kuibyshev. The book fund was replenished with works of Russian classics, foreign and Soviet writers.
In 1953 the internal departments of the regional library were replenished. The library had two subscription departments, a reading room, a mobile library, a car library and six staff members. In June 1957, a methodical office was established in the regional library. The purpose was to provide methodological assistance to district and rural libraries, to disseminate best practices.
At the beginning of 1959, departments of bibliography were organized, processing and replenishment of the book fund. From the first year of its establishment, the scientific-methodical department supervised the work of regional libraries, provided methodological assistance, conducted courses, internships and workshops to improve the professional skills and knowledge of librarians.
In May 2002, at the Republican Conference "Corporate Cataloging of the Republic of Kazakhstan" held at the National Library, the issues of the library program "RA-BIS", its use and integration were discussed. In this regard, the library is taking the first steps to integrate the electronic catalog with the libraries of the republic, to manage it from one place and promote our products via the Internet. Also, the materials of the web-site dedicated to our ancestor Makhambet on the Internet were prepared by library specialists. In 2009, the library moved to a new building in the Nursaya microdistrict of Atyrau.
