Planned activities are being carried out in the Akmola region to protect agricultural lands from locust insects. This year, chemical treatments will cover an area of 226.5 thousand hectares, including 89.0 thousand hectares funded by the republican budget and 137.5 thousand hectares funded by the regional budget.
Recently, an operational field task force on locust pest control convened in the Zharkainsky District. The event was attended by Murat Balpan, Deputy Akim of Akmola Region; Zhasulan Kozhabekov, Head of the Akmola Regional Territorial Inspection of the Committee of State Inspection in the Agro-Industrial Complex of the Ministry of Agriculture of the Republic of Kazakhstan; Nurbek Sadykov, Head of the Akmola Branch of the Republican Methodological Center for Phytosanitary Diagnostics and Forecasts; as well as local agricultural producers.
During the event, specialized sprayers for treating agricultural lands, vehicles for monitoring locust pest outbreaks, and unmanned aerial systems (drones) for surveying large areas were demonstrated. All equipment was shown in operation — drones were flying in real time, and specialists presented monitoring and treatment protocols.
"The majority of chemical treatments are concentrated in the Zharkainsky District, which poses a serious threat to agricultural crops. Specialists have previously identified locust pest hotspots. Today, these areas were shown to the members of the operational task force. Currently, the pests are in the larval stage, so chemical treatments will be carried out in these territories in the near future," noted Nurbek Sadykov, Head of the Regional Branch of Phytosanitary Diagnostics and Forecasting.
This year, unmanned aerial systems of the Republican State Enterprise on the Right of Economic Management "Phytosanitary" are being used for the first time in the Zharkainsky District to treat agricultural lands covering 5,000 hectares. The capacity of one drone is up to 50 hectares per day.
To date, 3,800 hectares in the district have been treated with funding from the republican budget. Due to the complex terrain, treatments were conducted using hang gliders: 2,310 hectares in the Prigorodnoye village area and 1,490 hectares in the Valikhanov rural district.
Murat Balpan, Deputy Akim of Akmola Region, emphasized the importance of promptness and responsibility in implementing anti-locust measures.
“We have a clear task not to allow the spread of the pest. This requires coordinated work of all services, the use of modern technologies, and constant monitoring of the situation. We must protect the harvest and ensure the region’s food security,” Deputy Akim Murat Balpan stated.
Following the meeting, he instructed to ensure coordinated, timely, and high-quality work of all involved services during the chemical treatment period.
In the regional center of Kokshetau, construction of two new 45-apartment residential buildings is nearing completion. The buildings are located at the intersection of Vernadsky and Kapcevich streets and stand out with their unique architectural style and modern, comfortable layouts.
At present, construction work has been completed, and landscaping efforts are underway. The handover of keys to new residents is expected soon.
Akim of Akmola Region, Marat Akhmetzhanov, visited the construction site to inspect the progress.
According to Dauren Tleuberdinov, a representative of the construction company Integra, landscaping work is currently in progress, with asphalt paving scheduled for completion by the end of the week. The complex includes both sports and children’s playgrounds.
The residential complex consists of four buildings in total. Residents of the first two completed buildings expressed their gratitude to the regional akim.
“The new playground is full of children all day long. The courtyard has become very beautiful and cozy,” said resident of the neighborhood, Saken Tokanov.
The sowing campaign is actively underway in the Akmola Region. This year, the total area allocated for agricultural crops will increase by 52 thousand hectares, reaching 5.5 million hectares — a clear indicator of the region’s steady growth in the agricultural sector.
The area under oilseed crops has been significantly expanded to 430 thousand hectares. As of today, spring sowing has been completed on over 750 thousand hectares. In total, 37,000 units of agricultural machinery are involved in the campaign.
Farmers in the Zharkainsky District plan to sow 663.5 thousand hectares — making it the largest sowing area in the region. To date, 123 thousand hectares have already been planted.
“The 2025 sowing campaign is proceeding as scheduled. All preparatory work was completed on time, and our farmers are now successfully conducting sowing operations. We are confident that through coordinated efforts and strong technical capacity, we will meet our targets and ensure a good harvest,” noted Dulat Syzdykov, Deputy Akim of Zharkainsky District.
A delegation of businessmen from Zhejiang Province, People’s Republic of China, visited Akmola Region at the invitation of the regional administration. The purpose of the visit was to develop investment cooperation.
In the city of Kokshetau, Deputy Akim of the region, Yernar Zharkeshov, discussed with the delegation a number of projects in the fields of industry, e-commerce, and logistics. Zhejiang is an important province in the People’s Republic of China, with its capital Hangzhou, which hosts the headquarters of technological giants such as Alibaba, DingTalk, and others. It is also the province with the highest number of other major private Chinese companies investing abroad.
The Chinese side expressed interest in utilizing the region’s infrastructure as part of the Middle Corridor of the Trans-Caspian route. Special attention was given to the “Aqmola” industrial zone of national importance, which the guests highly appreciated and consider as a site for establishing production facilities.
The regional administration provided details about investment preferences and conditions for foreign companies in Kazakhstan and confirmed its readiness to fully support investors and create favorable conditions for the implementation of joint projects. Both sides are considering cooperation in the format of sister regions.
The construction of social facilities is being actively implemented in the regional center of Akmola region. Today, the city is building 22 apartment buildings, 2 comfortable schools, 3 kindergartens, 4 dormitories for colleges and universities, as well as a parking lot in the village of Krasny Yar. 19 playgrounds and sports grounds are being built within the framework of the Budget of People's Participation project. Additionally, work is underway on the construction of 7 sports grounds and 6 playgrounds in the village of Krasny Yar.
As part of the working trip, Akim of Akmola region Marat Akhmetzhanov got acquainted with the pace of construction of educational facilities and a residential complex along Vernadsky Street.
About 100 people work at the construction site of 4 five-storey apartment complexes. According to the representative of Adilbek Kayroll LLP, 3 houses are planned to be commissioned this year, of which 45 apartments will be designed for socially vulnerable segments of the population.
Recall that in April of this year, the demolition of dilapidated housing affected by the flood was carried out on this land plot.
At the initiative of the akim of the region, within the framework of the social responsibility of business, the contractor organization Integra Construction KZ LLP has begun the construction of houses.
The construction of the dormitory of the "Higher Multidisciplinary College of Civil Protection" for 450 places is being completed. The contractor is working on the interior decoration of the building and landscaping. About 110 people are involved in the site.

The contractor organization UK Stroy LLP is carrying out internal finishing works, engineering communications are being carried out. INTEGRO Construction KZ LLP is carrying out construction and installation and interior finishing works in a similar way. The construction of a 1.3 km long road to a comfortable school is under completion.

A meeting was held in the Akmola region on the implementation of the project for the construction of a thermal power plant in Kokshetau. During the meeting, issues of the location and stages of project implementation were discussed.

The head of the region noted that a significant event last year for the Akmola region was the signing of a memorandum between Kazakhstan and the Russian Federation on the construction of thermal power plants.
"The issue of heat supply to the regional center is one of the strategically important issues. Special attention is given to the construction of thermal power plants. Today we have to resolve the issue of the need to change design decisions and adjust the feasibility study of the project, emphasized M. Akhmetzhanov.
Let us recall that in December 2023, an agreement was concluded on the construction of a thermal power plant in the city of Kokshetau between Samruk-Energo JSC and Inter RAO – Export LLC. In the main technical solutions it is planned to use the infrastructure of existing thermal energy generation facilities in Kokshetau. The estimated construction period of the thermal power plant is about 5 years.
