Museum of Literature and Art

The Museum of Literature and Art was established by Order of the Council of Ministers of the Kazakh SSR No. 14 dated January 20, 1989, and was opened to the public on June 22, 1993.

The museum is a scientific institution where research is conducted on the life and work of famous improvisational singers, poets, writers of the Akmola region and the whole of Kazakhstan. The uniqueness of the Museum of Literature and Art of the Akmola region lies in the fact that there are only two such museums in our Republic. A similar museum is located in Pavlodar.

The museum has more than 10,000 exhibits in its collections. More than 8 thousand exhibits have been digitized and included in the museum. Among these exhibits there are personal belongings and original manuscripts, photographs of Birzhan Sal, Akan Sere, Ukuli Ybyraya, Baluan Sholak, Koken Shakeev, Musa Asainov, T. Kakishev, S. Zhunusov, T. Kazhibaev, I. Salakhov, etc. There is not only scientific research on the work of these akyns, writers, and poets, but also the promotion of literary heritage. Of particular value is the manuscript of the book of Skin by Ahmet Yassawi "Diwani Hikmet" dated from the XVI-XVII century. One of the most ancient exhibits is the saptyayak, which is more than 5 centuries old. Kabdolla Ualiev, a resident of Igilik village of Zerendinsky district, presented this saptyak, and this vessel is a family heirloom of the Ualievs. The Saptyayak is hollowed out of solid wood. A valuable exhibit of our museum is also a wooden astau designed for serving meat and a two-headed ozhau for bottling koumiss made from the hip bone of a camel. These kitchen utensils were used by Ashimova's ancestors, Sarken. Tauarikh Zhasauiev, a resident of the village of Yeltai in the Zerendinsky district, donated a torsyk and a horse-shaped shelek (pail) made of leather to the museum fund. From the village of Madeniyet in the Keller region, Marat Koterbekov and Amantai Kametkanova handed over personal belongings of Aktokta (Akan's beloved Sera) a mirror, a German-made Singer foot machine, and Sultan's dombyr, the son of Aktokta and Zhalmukan. The museum's collections also contain rare books in Arabic and Old Slavonic, dated from the XVIII-XIX centuries.
