What to do if you get a call from a scammer. Recommendations from banks

Don't let yourself be intimidated, be vigilant.

Fraudsters' attacks on bank customers have become more frequent in Kazakhstan. In this connection, the banks joined forces with Kazakhstan and figured out how not to fall for the bait of the Mujahideen, they transmit zakon.kz .

Here are just a few common schemes. Scammers:

They call and introduce themselves as bank employees. They report a suspicious transaction and extract data for transferring money from the client's account. For example, ask to remember the password in your personal account, find a new password and a secret code from SMS messages. Using this data, fraudsters transfer money from the client's account or even take money loans in his name.
They call, inform about the possible theft of money from the client's accounts and offer him to urgently transfer money to a "mirror account", "insurance agent", to an "insurance cell", etc. The legend may be different, the main thing is that the client transfers money to the specified accounts. In some cases, with the help of special computer programs, fraudsters can call allegedly from a bank number, or from a number very similar to a bank number.
They send messages by mail or messengers with information about charity events, unique financial services, prize draws and much more. They have links where you need to enter personal data or make banking transactions. When a person enters their card details, fraudsters withdraw money from it. There may also be a virus on the link that will give scammers access to your application.
They call, say that someone is trying to log into your personal account and offer to download the application to provide additional security. In fact, this app gives scammers access to your phone. After that, they can make calls and carry out financial transactions on behalf of the client.

Remember that scammers try to scare a person, force him to give money quickly, do not give him the opportunity to think, navigate the situation. Don't let yourself be intimidated, be vigilant! Only together we can resist the actions of intruders," the appeal says.

What should I do if a scammer calls you?

Don't talk to a scammer. Hang up the phone. Check the safety of the money in the account. If you have any questions, please call the bank's call center.

Don't tell anyone:

The password for your personal account in the mobile application or online banking;
Card requestor: number, expiration date, CVV/CVC code (three-digit code on the shared card).
SMS code to confirm the transaction being confirmed: payment, transfer, etc.

This information cannot be disclosed, even if a person introduces himself as a bank employee and calls from a number similar to the bank's number. Real employees never ask about it. Only scammers do that.

Do not install:

Any mobile applications, if strangers ask you to do so
Do not follow the links: Even if the message came on behalf of a well-known bank or company. By clicking on the link, you can launch a malicious computer virus that will help scammers steal your money from bank accounts.
Do not fill out: Questionnaires with personal data. If you followed the link, never fill out questionnaires, do not participate in surveys, do not leave information about yourself. To find out about these promotions and sweepstakes, read the information on the official websites of banks or pages on social networks.
