1. The Department of Onomastics and Monitoring is a structural subdivision of the state institution " Languages Development Administration of Almaty Region", reports to the head of the administration.
2. The main task of the department is:
- the realization of the State program of functioning and development of languages, analysis of language situation state in the region and development, realization of the tasks of onomastic work in the region.
4. Functions:
1) ensures the organization and control of the realization of the Law of the Republic of Kazakhstan "On languages in the Republic of Kazakhstan", coordinates the activityof onomastic commissions, monitors the execution of programs of state onomastic work;
2) provides coordination of the activities of the regional onomastic commission;
3) ensures timely consideration of materials received by the regional onomastic commission and the adoption of reasonable conclusions on them;
4) carries out work on the applicants' appeals regarding onomastics and prepares draft written answers;
5) monitors the state and development of the language situation in the region, prepares analytical materials on the basis of a sociological research base, creates a database on the study of the language situation in the region, including information on the state of onomastic work;
6) ensures the implementation of activities in the field of language development, studies public opinion on the development of languages and onomastic work;
7) establishes interrelation with scientists, scientific centers, higher educational institutions, carries out research and scientific work, reveals and registers information about changes in the name of geographical, administrative and territorial objects;
8) carries out explanatory work among the population of the region in order to form a respectful attitude among the population towards the traditionally and historically established names, publishes materials in periodicals;
9) develops recommendations for improving the language culture in the decoration of objects, outdoor information advertising, signage;
10) provides timely preparation of information materials, on documents that are supervised by higher authorities, on onomastics;
11) holds language seminars, meetings, conferences, competitions, and other public events.
