Employees of the emergency response department of the Karasai region and the personnel of the PCh-9 of Kaskelen, together with the volunteers of "Zhas Otan", carried out an action "Beware of carbon monoxide" among socially vulnerable families of the Karasai region. Within the framework of the action, the project "Chain of Good Deeds" was organized, in which the residents of the region themselves actively participate.
The purpose of this action is to increase the knowledge of the population and clarify the requirements of fire safety when installing furnaces. Since the death and injury of people is associated with carbon monoxide poisoning from the heating stove.
It is not uncommon for a person to die from carbon monoxide poisoning during the heating season. The closed chimney damper did not allow the combustion products and the resulting gas concentration to escape out of the chimney, and the closed ventilation gap did not allow pulling the combustion products out of the kitchen. If the stove is properly operated and maintained, the amount of carbon monoxide produced when the fuel is burned is usually not hazardous. Caution is the key to preventing carbon monoxide poisoning.
The stove with a closed valve and non-combustible fuel is a source of poisonous gas and an unnoticed poisoner. Assuming that the wood has completely burned out, the owners of the stoves close the smoke screen to keep warm. With a lack of air, embers form carbon monoxide, which passes into the room through the leaky parts of the furnace device.
In the chimney and in the absence of air supply, the fuel is stored and, as a result, the formation and accumulation of carbon monoxide. Chimney care is not very difficult - it is enough twice a year at the beginning and end of the heating season, to check the tightness of the seams of the brickwork and the joints of the modules, if necessary, clean the inner surfaces of soot. Pay particular attention to checking the connection between the flue and the stove. After a long period of inactivity of the appliance, before firing up, open the triple lid and look through the pipe, making sure that the chimney does not form soot, debris and bird nests.
When making rounds of low-income families, special attention was paid to repairing heating stoves, cleaning chimneys, sealing cracks, installing metal sheets and inspecting electrical wiring, and also work was carried out to clean the area from snow and debris. Preventive work in this direction will continue throughout the heating period.
