Smart city

As part of the implementation of the "Smart City" concept and state digitalization, the Akimat of Almaty is systematically working on the implementation of intelligent technologies aimed at improving safety, the quality of the urban environment, and management efficiency.

One of the key areas has been the development of the video monitoring system in public spaces. Since 2022, a project has been underway in the city, within which thousands of surveillance cameras have been installed in public areas—parks, courtyards, bus stops, and recreation zones. In 2024, an additional 6,000 cameras were installed, continuing the development of the previous phase. Simultaneously, work is being done to create a Unified Video Monitoring System (UVMS), which integrates all city cameras on a unified platform and allows for real-time video analytics using recognition and forecasting algorithms. Currently, more than 52,000 cameras are connected to the UVMS, and by the end of 2025, this figure is expected to reach 70,000.

A significant focus has been placed on ensuring safety in the healthcare sector. In 2024, a project was completed to create a comprehensive security system in 64 medical institutions, within which digital cameras, panic buttons, security and fire alarm systems, and access control systems were installed. These measures aim to enhance the protection of staff and visitors and enable a prompt response to emergency situations.

To prevent acts of vandalism, in 2025, the installation of video surveillance systems at city cemeteries will begin, including the installation of poles in areas lacking infrastructure. Additionally, the development of the Situational Center continues – a digital platform for monitoring key indicators of the city’s development. In 2024, a number of integrations with city systems were implemented, and numerous analytical and informational modules were created to support management decisions. For 2025, further development of the platform is planned, including the introduction of modules with elements of artificial intelligence, 3D GIS, new data sources, and improvements to the open data chat-bot.

Thus, all the implemented digital projects are aimed at increasing safety, transparency, efficiency, and sustainability in the urban environment. The technologies you proposed will be further reviewed in the context of current initiatives and future plans.
