Since the beginning of the year about 12,000 counterfeit products seized in Kazakhstan
That was communicated during a bilateral meeting between the representatives of the Ministry of Justice and «Louis Vuitton».
The participants of the meeting outlined the importance of respect the exclusive rights of rightholders, the need to combat counterfeit products, and discussed the legal and technical aspects of countering counterfeit products of the «Louis Vuitton» brand.
Director of the Department for Intellectual Property Rights Sholpan Abdreyeva noted that this year the justice authorities conducted 58 unscheduled inspections for illegal use of other people`s trademark based on the appeals of rightholders. As a result of the inspections, 56 offenses were revealed, 54 cases were initiated, 46 persons were brought to administrative responsibility. The total amount of fines amounted to 3,654,210 tenge. About 12 thousand units of counterfeit products counting 23 million tenge were seized from illegal trafficking.
Sholpan Abdreyeva stated that the Republic of Kazakhstan pays important attention to the protection and enforcement of intellectual property rights. «Cooperation with right holders is an integral component of combating piracy. This partnership not only contributes to strengthening the fight against rights infringements, but also emphasizes the importance of joint efforts in ensuring the protection of rights and interests of creative industries», said the Director of the Department for Intellectual Property Rights.
Following the results of the event, the parties expressed a common understanding that in the fight against counterfeiting, it is important to cooperate with the judicial authorities, right holders and interested state bodies, that are responsible for protection and enforcement of intellectual property rights.
It is also important to raise public awareness about the problem of counterfeiting and its negative impact on economy and society. Sides agreed to develop next steps to strengthen protection of creative works and enhance fight against piracy in the Republic of Kazakhstan.
