Minister of Justice Marat Beketayev took part in the UN Security Council in New York

On May 17, an open discussion was held in New York on the UN Security Council «Ensuring compliance with international law in the context of the maintenance of international peace and security».The meeting was chaired by the Republic of Poland. For Kazakhstan this topic is of special importance.In 2015, the Head of State, during his speech at the UN General Assembly, pointed to the need to confirm at the highest level the basic principles of international law.This initiative was the reason for the past discussion in the Security Council.Kazakhstan is a non-permanent representative of the Security Council,the position of our country was presented by the Minister of Justice Marat Beketayev.In his speech, the Minister of Justice reminded the meeting of the measures,proposed by the President of the Republic of Kazakhstan for the maintenance of peace and security. It is necessary to achieve peace without conflicts on the occasion of the UN's 100th anniversary in 2045,this idea in its Manifesto under the name «Peace. XXI Century» President of Kazakhstan Nursultan Nazarbayev put forward.To achieve this and save subsequent generations from the scourge of war, The Manifesto establishes collective measures,which must be adopted to prevent and eliminate threats to peace,and the responsibility of each state for achieving this goal,the Minister of Justice noted.The Head of State repeatedly pointed to the importance of regional and subregional organizations,which are an important instrument for the maintenance of international peace and security.Therefore, one should think about the possibility, from time to time hold meetings The Security Council in other regional centers.In this connection, Marat Beketayev reminded the participants of the discussion,on the initiative of the President of Kazakhstan to convene the Conference on Interaction and Confidence Building Measures in Asia,which has been functioning successfully for more than a quarter of a century,where 26 countries from Cairo to Seoul carry out significant work in the field of preventive diplomacy.In conclusion, the Minister of Justice re-emphasized the importance of international law and its mechanisms for solving global problems.
