A patent certifies priority, authorship and exclusive right to an object of industrial property.

The validity period of a patent depends on the type of industrial property. For an invention patent it is 20 years from the date of filing the application, for a utility model patent it is 5 years from the date of filing the application with the possibility of extension for three years and for an industrial design patent it is fifteen years from the date of filing the application with an extension period of no more than five years.

The scope of legal protection provided by a title of protection for an invention and utility model is determined by their formula, and a patent for an industrial design is determined by the totality of its essential features presented in images of the product (model) and given in the list of essential features of the industrial design. To interpret the claims and utility model, the description and drawings may be used.
