The city's industry is represented by the mining and manufacturing sectors. Industrial production in Kurchatov for January–March 2026 amounted to 1,351.2 million tenge, an increase of 728.2 million tenge compared to the same period in 2025, a growth rate of 65.0%, and a physical volume index of 90.1%.
The decline in industrial production is due to declining performance in the mining industry. The main reason is the lack of contracts for the sale of fluorspar concentrate at the Kurchatov branch of Ulba Metallurgical Plant JSC (hereinafter referred to as the GOK), which impacted overall production.
The GOK's production volume for the period amounted to 486.3 million tenge, a decrease of 743.4 million tenge compared to the same period last year, a growth rate of 39.5%, and a physical volume index of 81.1%. Manufacturing:
Manufacturing production for the first three months of 2026 amounted to 222.2 million tenge, an increase of 25.3 million tenge compared to the same period in 2025. The growth rate was 112.8%, and the physical volume index was 130.5%.
Fixed Capital Investments:
Fixed capital investment for January–March 2026 amounted to 346.1 million tenge, a decrease of 402.0 million tenge compared to the same period last year. The growth rate was 46.3%, and the physical volume index was 43.9%.
Number of Active Small and Medium-Sized Businesses:
As of April 1, 2026, the number of active SMEs in Kurchatov was 471, a decrease of 82 compared to 2025 (553), and a growth rate of 85.2%. The decline in the number of operating small and medium-sized businesses in the city is due to the new Tax Code taking effect on January 1, 2026, and businesses that had not transitioned to a special (simplified) or general tax regime by March 1, 2026, were automatically closed.
Domestic Trade Volume:
Retail turnover for January–March 2026 amounted to 2,127.7 million tenge, with an increase of 80.7 million tenge by 2025. The growth rate was 103.9%, and the physical volume index was 93.6%.

Price monitoring for the SZPT:
Price monitoring for socially important food products is currently ongoing.
Since the beginning of the year, 13 inspections have been conducted, covering 174 retail outlets selling SZPT. Based on the monitoring results, four materials containing evidence of exceeding the maximum permissible trade markup were sent to the Abay Region Department of Trade and Consumer Protection. Supporting photographs and receipts were attached to the materials. The inspections revealed four violations of the maximum 15% markup, resulting in the entrepreneurs being held administratively liable under Article 204-4 of the Code of Administrative Offenses of the Republic of Kazakhstan (two cases resulted in fines).
Following the monitoring for March, supporting materials (photographs and receipts) were sent to the Department of Trade and Consumer Protection of Abay Region for four instances of price violations at three grocery stores for investigation and appropriate action.
The Department also organizes agricultural fairs to curb food prices, including with the participation of agricultural producers from nearby towns and districts. A total of three agricultural fairs have been organized so far this year.
Since the beginning of 2026, only five social media posts on this topic have been published in the city's media.
Efforts to curb inflation in the city are under constant review.
