The number of people engaged in physical culture and sports in the district is 5,541, which is 40.5% of the total population.
Today there are 32 sports facilities: 2 sports complexes, 10 hockey fields, 1 swimming pool, 1 racetrack, 18 summer facilities.
19 gyms: gyms of 12 schools, gyms of 4 sports complexes (wrestling hall, boxing hall, gym and game room), 1 gym building of the old sports school (rhythmic gymnastics hall) and 2 gyms in the village of Kundyzdy (wrestling hall and gym). All these sports facilities are accessible to the public today.
The Abai region has a high potential for the development of historical and cultural tourism.
There are tourist sites in the district: the state historical, cultural, literary and memorial museum–reserve of Abai "Zhidebai-Borili", the Akshoky necropolis, where the umbilical cord blood of the great Abai Tamgan Syrt Kaskabulak, the Kunanbai Kazhi dynasty, the Konyr Aulie cave, etc. are buried.
