
Katon-Karagai district is a developing region of the East Kazakhstan region. The formation of regional tourism infrastructure and the creation of a tourist image are important areas of development of the Katon-Karagai district. Everyone knows that our Altai is the homeland of the Turkic people. There are historical mounds, petroglyphs and monuments on the territory of the district, which are witnesses of our history.
The nature of Altai is diverse. Namely, clean air, noisy rivers, charming lakes, healing springs, as well as historical finds attract all peoples of the world. Snow-capped mountain peaks with fantastic rocky formations, dense cedar forests, clear springs, stormy rivers, waterfalls and reservoirs, animals, birds and a beautiful multicolored landscape with bright wildflowers make everyone who has visited the district admire and admire. Mother Nature has endowed such magnificent sights as the Berel mounds, the abandoned Kokkol high-altitude mine, the Rakhmanovskie Klyuchi thermal springs, Lake Kokkol, Rakhmanovskoye, Yazevoye, Ushkol, Maralye, Kaumysh, Bukhtarminskoye, Yazevoy Kokkolsky and Rakhmanovsky waterfalls, as well as the northern branch of the Great Silk Road, which is known as the Golden Branch of the ancient caravan Route, and the Austrian Road, which has historical value as a distinctive monument.
The basis of the tourism industry of the district is medical, ecological, rural, social, cultural, educational and active tourism.
In 2023, 60 accommodation facilities with a capacity of 1,689 beds operated and provided their services in the district.
The number of visits in the area according to the results of the tourist season for 2023 is about 150.0 thousand people, (with an increase of 149.7%) of them:
- by places of accommodation (pantotherapy, recreation centers, hotels, guest houses, etc.) -40.1 thousand people (with an increase of 131.6%);
- Katon-Karagai National Nature Park – 16.8 people;
- Berelsky Kurgans Museum-Reserve - 19.5 people;
- rural tourism and spontaneous tourists -74.7 thousand people.
It should be noted that in 2022, 7 new measures of state support for the tourism sector came into force.
Tour operators receive subsidies for each foreign tourist, provided that valid documents are provided, confirmation of the tourist's stay at the accommodation for at least four days and three nights, as well as registration of the tourist through the e-Qonaq information system. The amount of the subsidy is 15,000 tenge for each foreign tourist.
The subsidy is paid for the cost of a ticket for a minor passenger included in a tourist product purchased from a tour operator operating in the field of domestic tourism. 100% of the ticket price of a minor passenger in Kazakhstan is covered.
25% of the cost of purchased equipment and equipment, including cable cars, artificial snowmaking systems and snow-sealing equipment, is subject to reimbursement.
10% of the cost of construction of facilities such as motels, hotels, campgrounds, gas stations, food outlets and others is subject to reimbursement.
Requirements include the availability of separate cabins for persons with disabilities, men and women, equipped with toilets, sinks, ventilation, heat supply and personal hygiene products.
The amount of subsidy is 83,300 tenge per month to maintain their sanitary condition.
10% of the cost of construction and reconstruction of natural sites, attractions, historical and socio-cultural sites is subject to reimbursement.
25% of the cost of vehicles with a capacity of more than eight seats, excluding the driver's seat, is reimbursed.
These measures are aimed at stimulating the development of tourism in Kazakhstan, improving infrastructure and increasing the attractiveness of the country for foreign and local tourists.
