What has to be done if there is fire in the apartment

Введение

People die in the fire. This occurs mostly from negligence, panic and ignorance of basic rules of behavior in case of ignition.

In this article, we will consider correct people's behavior in case of ignition, fire.

Everyone should know these basic rules, but we hope they there will be no need in experiencing them in reality.

What has to be done in case of a fire in the apartment

If you find a fire, call the fire department immediately. Dial "101" and provide the following information:

  • an address where the ingnition or fire was detected;
  • what exactly is on fire: TV, furniture, car;
  • if the dispatcher asks, then specify: the number of the house, entrance, apartment, on which floor the fire is, how many floors are in the building, where it is more convenient to drive from, a door code for entering the entrance, is there a danger to people, etc .;
  • Give your name and phone number.
  • Speak clearly and calmly on the phone, take your time. Be aware that while you are reporting a fire, the fire brigade has already been alerted and is leaving its office (all the necessary information will be transmitted to the fighters by the radio).

What has to be done if the smoke and flame from the fire in the adjacent rooms prevent you from going outside

Don't be in panic.

Call the "101". Explain to the dispatcher exactly where you are and that you are cut off from the exit by fire.

If you live in a multi-stored building, check if there is a possibility to go to the roof or go down the smoke-free fire escape, or go through the adjacent loggias.

Do not jump from the upper floors, do not go down the ropes, sheets, drainpipes. Better to wait 15 minutes for the help. When you are offered a fire tent in a timely manner, do not think about the fear of heights.

If there is no way to evacuate, try to securely seal your apartment to protect it from heat and smoke. To do this, close the front door tightly, moisten towels, blankets or any other fabric with water and tightly close the cracks in the door from inside the apartment with them. It is also necessary to close the windows, plug the ventilation openings in the kitchen, bathroom, and toilet in order to avoid draft and smoke penetration from the street.

Collect the water into the pots and bath tub, moisten the doors, floor, rags.

Move towards the window, stay near the window and try to attract attention of the people on the street.

When attracting people's attention, it is not necessary to shout, you can, for example, hang a large piece of bright fabric from the window leaf or from the window (without opening them!), and at night give signals with a flashlight.

If there is no urgent need (feeling of suffocation, clouding of consciousness), try not to open or break the window, as the tightness of your shelter will be broken, the room will quickly be filled with smoke and there will be nothing to breathe even near the open window. Due to the draft,  the  smoke  followed by the flame will enter the room.

If the apartment has a balcony or loggia, then you must try to get out there, tightly closing the door behind you. Get the attention of people on the street to you.

Wait for the firefighters, they usually arrive in a few minutes.

Follow the fire safety rules and take care of yourself.

What has to be done if the smoke and flame from the fire of neighboring premises prevent you from leaving the apartment

Get away from the fire rather; do not seek or collect anything. When leaving the premises, warn everyone you can.

If possible, turn off the gas, at the same time de-energize the apartment by turning off the voltage on the electrical panel located on the staircase.

Do not use the elevator under any circumstances - it can become a trap.

Make your way to the exit on all fours or crawl, as the air temperature is lower to the floor and there is more oxygen. At the same time, keep your head at least 30 cm from the floor level, directly above which a layer of heavy poisonous combustion gases, including carbon monoxide, can be located.

On the way, close the doors tightly behind you to block the path of the fire (the door can delay the spread of combustion for more than 10 - 15 minutes!), This will allow other people to leave the room as well.

If there is a lot of smoke, sore throat, watery eyes - make your way, tightly covering the airways with some multilayer cotton cloth, breathe through the cloth.

If you have the opportunity to help other people - do it by any means, it is better to save several other people's lives than your own property.

When a person is on fire, do not let him run - the flame will only intensify. It is necessary to immediately dump the victim to the ground, applying forceful methods if needed (the best is try to dump him into the snowdrift or puddle), try to quickly throw off the burning clothes, and it is better to throw on any dense cloth, be sure to leave the head open (so that the person does not suffocate). You can not take off your own clothes from burnt parts of the body, especially synthetics - hand over the suffered to the doctors.

What has to be done if the flame develops in the apartment

  • If the pan catches the fire, immediately close the lid tightly on the pan and turn off the stove. Do not carry the frying pan and pour the water over the burning oil, because of violent boiling, splashing of burning oil, burning of hands, face and many foci of combustion will occur.
  • If an unpleasant smell of burning insulation appears in the apartment, turn off the general electrical switch (automatic device), disconnect the apartment from the electrical power.
  • Do not use water to extinguish the equipment connected to the mains!
  • If the TV, refrigerator, iron gets inflamed- disconnect the apartment from the power supply or turn off the appliances by unplugging the power cord.
  • If the burning has just started, cover the unplugged iron (TV) with a woolen blanket, a thick cloth and press it along the edges so that there is no air.
  • A small flame on a de-energized TV can be flooded with water, while standing behind or on the side to avoid injury from a possible explosion of the kinescope.
  • Do not use water to extinguish fire when a burning electrical appliance is energized, you can try to cover a small combustion foci with baking soda or calcined soda, sand, earth (for example, from a flower pot).
