Admission to school

Even though the school curriculum requires learning the alphabet and arithmetic in the first grade, it is advisable for your child to acquire some basic skills before school to help them with their studies.

A list of basic skills is widely available on the internet and includes:

• know your last name and first name, in which city / country he lives;
• know the names of the most common plants, animals;
• distinguish wild animals from domestic ones;
• know fruits and vegetables;
• know the time of day, seasons;
• know the basic colors.

Intellectual development

• solve simple riddles;
• finding an extra item in a group;
• add missing items to the group;
• tell how certain items are similar or different;
• group items by attribute.

Hearing, vision, attention, memory, speech

• speech to find 3-5 differences in two similar pictures;
• recite a poem by heart, tell a fairy tale.

Basics of Mathematics

• are to be able to count from 1 to 10;
• to know simple geometric shapes, to be able to compare objects more, less.

According to the standard rules for accepting children, parents have a choice: a school you like, and a school that fits your registration. That's the way to make up your mind:

• parents or other legal representatives of a child should first contact the schools in the area where they live. These schools can't refuse to accept a student;
• You can also choose a school based on your child's individual aptitudes and characteristics.

Most parents are guided by universal requirements:

• A good primary school teacher;
• Location of a school (distance from home or place of work of the father and mother);
• Equipping a school (classrooms, computer room, gym, fitness center, landscaping);
• The presence of an afterschool;
• In-depth study of individual disciplines or division of pupils from the first grade into humanities, mathematics and science;
• Options (sports sections, creative clubs);
• Learning time (first or second shift for primary grades);
• The school's UNT and other indicators.

In order to choose a school, you must first decide what you want from it. Which factors will be the most important.

In accordance with paragraph 1 of Article 31 of the Law of the Republic of Kazakhstan "On Education" and paragraph 9 of the Standard Rules for Admission to secondary education organizations, children are admitted to the first grade from the age of six.

Secondary schools of the Republic of Kazakhstan can accept children from the age of 5 into the first grade, if they turn 6 by the end of December this year.

Applications from parents or other legal representatives of children (guardian, foster carer) entering the first class of primary education organizations are accepted from April 1 to August 31 of the current calendar year.

The school accepts six-year-olds and children who will turn 6 in the current calendar year.

It should be noted that all children who turn 6 years old as of September 1 are accepted. Children who are under the age of 6 (who will turn 6 after September 1 of this year) are accepted only at the request of their parents or other legal representatives.

According to the rules of admission to the 1st grade, three applicants who have submitted an application for territorial maintenance of the school (at the place of registration) are first enrolled, then one applicant from another territory is enrolled.

An educational organization does not have the right to demand documents that are not listed in the list of mandatory documents (Order of the Minister of Education and Science of the Republic of Kazakhstan dated October 12, 2018 No. 564).

Acceptance of documents and enrollment of children in school is automated through the egov e-government web portal and information systems of local executive bodies. This public service is provided by secondary education organizations in one working day.

List of documents required for admission to general education

For citizens of Kazakhstan:

• statement;
• health certificate, form No. 065u;
• passport of the child's health № 052-2/у;
• photo of the child in the size of 3x4 cm (2 pcs).

For foreigners

The same conditions apply to foreigners as to citizens of the Republic of Kazakhstan. Parents or other legal representatives must reside temporarily or permanently in our country.

Foreigners should present to the school a document for the right of permanent residence in the Republic of Kazakhstan with a mark on the registration at the place of residence:

• foreigner – residence permit of a foreigner in the Republic of Kazakhstan;
• stateless person – a stateless person's certificate;
• refugee – a refugee ID;
• asylum seeker – a certificate of asylum seeker;
• ethnic Kazakh – an ethnic kazakh identity document or a migration  authority's certificate.

Parents or other legal representatives of children of foreigners and stateless persons under the age of 16, when determining their child to an educational organization, apply to the educational authorities of the region, city of republican significance, capital, district (city of regional significance) to receive a referral for education, and submit a document confirming the right of permanent residence in the Republic Kazakhstan.

In the direction of the Department of Education, the director of the school enrolls them in the number of students in the appropriate classes, according to the level of education they received abroad, in accordance with the documents on education. In the absence of such documents, a commission is formed in the education departments, which determines the educational level of the applicant.

List of necessary documents for foreigners

• Application in any form from the child's parents or guardians.
• A copy of the birth certificate.
• Health certificate.
• 2 photos 3x4 cm in size.
• Residence permit and migration card.
• Identity document

Gymnasiums and lyceums provide admission of children on a competitive basis.

When admitting children to the first grade in gymnasiums and lyceums, exams are held until June 15 of the calendar year, the terms, forms and tasks, which are determined by them independently.

Admission to specialized educational organizations is carried out through private information systems or on the basis of schools.

The order on enrollment in the first class is issued by the organization of secondary education no earlier than August 25 of the current year.

No exams, tests, tests, credits or contests are held for admission to the first grade of primary education institutions.

It is not allowed to request documents, certificates (from the place of work, salary), letters, etc., not provided by the standard of public service.

Admission to specialized educational organizations and specialized schools for gifted children is made on a competitive basis.

Students from low-income families have the right to free hot meals and free rest in country and school camps.

It is not allowed to complete the classes according to the level of training and development of children. 

If your child's place of residence is not territorially covered by the school, according to permanent or temporary registration, the school may accept your child's place of residence if there are available places at the school.

Can they refuse admission to school if the child is not vaccinated?

No. They can't. In order to enroll children in school, it is necessary to have a health certificate on forms № 052-2/у and 065/y, which specify the presence or absence of vaccinations. However, if the vaccinations are not given on the basis of the parents' beliefs, no one has the right to refuse to receive them on this basis.
