Cultural and humanitarian cooperation

Cultural and humanitarian cooperation is an important dimension of Kazakh-Polish relations, contributing to greater mutual understanding between the peoples of the two countries, the preservation of historical memory, the development of academic ties, and the promotion of the culture of the Republic of Kazakhstan in Poland.

The legal framework for cooperation in education is provided by the Agreement between the Government of the Republic of Kazakhstan and the Government of the Republic of Poland on Cooperation in the Field of Education, signed on 15 September 2014. Key areas of cooperation include the development of academic contacts, the expansion of collaboration between higher education institutions, scientific and research organisations, and support for joint educational and research initiatives. Currently, more than 2,000 students from Kazakhstan are studying in Poland.

The Kazakh-Polish Historical Commission, established on 6 June 2022 in Białystok, plays an important role in strengthening bilateral humanitarian ties. Its activities focus on promoting joint historical research, fostering academic dialogue, and preserving shared historical memory. The Commission holds regular meetings attended by representatives of the academic communities of Kazakhstan and Poland. These meetings provide a platform for discussing key issues in bilateral historical dialogue, prospects for joint research, and the study of the historical heritage of both countries.

An important centre for academic and cultural cooperation is the Abai Centre for Kazakh Culture and Science, established on 23 May 2019 at Pomeranian University in Słupsk. The Centre promotes Kazakhstan’s cultural and literary heritage, facilitates academic contacts, and strengthens ties between the academic communities of the two countries.

The International Abai Readings, held annually at Pomeranian University, bring together researchers and members of the academic community from Kazakhstan, Poland, and other countries. On 3–4 June 2026, the 8th International Abai Readings were held under the theme “Abai Readings: The History and Future of Kazakhstan’s Culture in the Eurasian Space”, focusing on Kazakhstan’s literary, philosophical, and cultural heritage.

The Embassy of the Republic of Kazakhstan in the Republic of Poland regularly organises and supports cultural and educational events aimed at introducing Polish audiences to Kazakhstan’s history, culture, and national traditions.

On 16 March 2026, Kazakhstan Day was held at the Warsaw University of Technology as part of the Nauryz celebrations. On 2 June 2026, the Centre for Turkic Cultures was inaugurated at the University of Warsaw. The Centre aims to promote the study of the history, languages, and cultures of Turkic peoples, as well as to foster academic cooperation.

One of the key areas of cultural exchange is the promotion of Kazakhstani cinema. The Embassy organises screenings of Kazakhstani feature films, introducing Polish audiences to the country’s history and prominent figures of the Kazakh people.

On 5 June 2024, the feature film «The Dawn of the Great Steppe» was screened in Warsaw with Polish subtitles. The film introduces audiences to Kazakhstan’s history and cultural heritage, portraying important stages in the country’s formation.

On 10 December 2025, Polish audiences were presented with the film Kazhimukan, dedicated to the life and achievements of Kazhimukan Munaitpasov, an outstanding Kazakh wrestler.

Musical cooperation also plays an important role in cultural relations. Kazakhstani performers take part in international festivals and concert projects in Poland, contributing to the promotion of Kazakhstan’s musical heritage and the development of cultural exchange.

Kazakhstani vocalists participate annually in the International Anna German Song Festival, dedicated to the artistic legacy of the renowned singer. On 3 May 2026, a concert entitled Echo of Love, featuring festival laureates and a symphony orchestra, was held in Astana in tribute to Anna German’s artistic legacy.
