Trade and economic cooperation with Austria

Austria is one of the leading trading partners of Kazakhstan in Central Europe and is of significant interest for Kazakhstans’ exports. In turn, Kazakhstan is the main trade and economic partner of Austria in Central Asia.

In 2024, trade turnover between Kazakhstan and Austria reached $280.8 million, with Kazakhstan's exports amounting to $4.1 million and imports from Austria totalling $276.7 million.

The main platform for economic interaction between the two countries is the Intergovernmental Commission (IGC) on Economic, Agricultural, Environmental, Industrial, Technical, and Technological Cooperation. The IGC is co-chaired by Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs Roman Vasilenko and Director General of the Federal Ministry of Economy, Energy and Tourism Florian Frauscher. Twelve IGC meetings have been held since 2009, alternating between cities of Austria and Kazakhstan. The most recent meeting took place in Astana on April 24, 2025.

The Kazakhstan-Austria Business Council, established in 2012, plays a crucial role in fostering business ties. Its co-chairs are Meiram Przembayev (Chairman of the Union of Machine Builders, Kazakhstan) and Wolfgang Hesoun (Vice-President of the Austrian Economic Chamber). Ten meetings of the Business Council have been held to date.
