Registration of Loss of Citizenship

Loss of citizenship is a form of termination of citizenship of the Republic of Kazakhstan.

Citizenship is considered lost in the following cases:

entering military service, security service, police, judicial authorities, or other state bodies and administrations of a foreign country, except in cases provided for by international agreements of the Republic of Kazakhstan;
if the citizenship of the Republic of Kazakhstan was obtained through knowingly false information or forged documents;
on grounds provided by international agreements of the Republic of Kazakhstan;
if the individual acquires the citizenship of another state;
in case of using documents confirming foreign citizenship after obtaining the citizenship of the Republic of Kazakhstan;
if the marriage to a citizen of the Republic of Kazakhstan, which served as the basis for acquiring Kazakhstani citizenship, is declared invalid by a court;
based on the voluntary will of a child, citizen of the Republic of Kazakhstan, adopted by foreign nationals, upon reaching the age of majority;
as a result of the individual’s participation in foreign armed conflicts, extremist and/or terrorist activities on the territory of another state.

An individual who has acquired foreign citizenship is required to notify the internal affairs authorities or diplomatic missions of the Republic of Kazakhstan within thirty (30) calendar days and surrender their passport and/or identity card.

LIST OF DOCUMENTS

For citizens who have officially registered their permanent residence outside the territory of the Republic of Kazakhstan:

a statement (in free form);
the passport of the citizen of the Republic of Kazakhstan. In case of absence or loss of the passport, a written explanation or other supporting document must be provided;
a copy of the foreign passport or a document confirming the possession of foreign citizenship.
Additional documents must be submitted in the following cases:
In case of changes to personal identification data (e.g., full name):
a document confirming the change.

When documents are submitted by a parent (current or former citizen of the Republic of Kazakhstan) on behalf of a minor child:

a copy of the child’s birth certificate;
copies of the identity documents of the parents;

For citizens who have not registered their departure for permanent residence outside the Republic of Kazakhstan:

a notification (to be completed by hand);
a notification for a minor child (to be completed by the parent who is or was a citizen of Kazakhstan);
the passport of the citizen of the Republic of Kazakhstan;
the identity card of the citizen of the Republic of Kazakhstan;
in case of absence or loss of the passport and/or identity card, a written explanation or other supporting document must be provided (children under 16 are not required to provide an explanation);
if the passport and/or identity card is damaged (torn, burned, soaked, etc.), a written explanation in free form must be submitted;
a copy of the foreign passport or other document confirming foreign citizenship.

Additional documents must be submitted in the following cases:

In case of changes to personal identification data (e.g., full name):

a document confirming the change.

In the case of a minor child, whose parents (who are citizens of the Republic of Kazakhstan or were citizens of the Republic of Kazakhstan) submit a document:

• A copy of the child's birth certificate;
• A copy of the identity document of the parent who submitted the document;

NOTE:
Documents drafted in a foreign language must be submitted with a translation into the state or Russian language. Translation of the foreign passport is not required.
