Diplomatic relations between the Republic of Kazakhstan and the People’s Republic of China were established on 3 January 1992.
The Embassy of Kazakhstan in China opened in December 1992.
In China there are also consulates general of Kazakhstan in Hong Kong SAR, Shanghai city and Passport-visa service in Urumqi city.
The Consulate General of Kazakhstan in Shanghai opened on 31 May 2005. The consular district of the Consulate General of Kazakhstan includes Shanghai city, Jiangsu, Zhejiang, Anhui, Jiangxi and Fujian provinces.
The Embassy of China in Kazakhstan opened in February 1992. In Kazakhstan there is also the Consulate General of China in Almaty city.
H.E. Mr. Shakhrat Nuryshev is the Ambassador of the Republic of Kazakhstan to the People’s Republic of China since April 2022.
H.E. Mr. Han Chunlin is the Ambassador of the People’s Republic of China to the Republic of Kazakhstan since January 2025.
Cooperation between Kazakhstan and China is characterized by high dynamics of contacts at the highest and high levels.
Kazakhstan and China have established a legal framework that covers many areas of bilateral cooperation.
Kazakhstan and China at the current stage actively develop mutually beneficial cooperation in the field of trade, energy, transport and logistics, investment, agriculture and industry. Cultural and humanitarian cooperation between Kazakhstan and China develops in such areas as joint publication of various books, production and demonstration of documentary and feature films, as well as cultural and educational events.
In order to coordinate the main areas of trade, economic, cultural and humanitarian cooperation between two countries, meetings of the Kazakhstan – China Cooperation Committee, which includes specialized subcommittees and joint commissions, are regularly held.
Also, meetings of the Kazakhstan-China Business Council and the Kazakhstan-China Interregional Cooperation Forum are regularly held. These important dialogue platforms promote further cooperation between business communities of Kazakhstan and China.
