In June, the Embassy of Spain in Kazakhstan was opened.

D. Mussayev.
Since June 12, 2024, the Ambassador of Spain to Kazakhstan is L.F. Martínez Montes.
Political Cooperation
High-level contacts
Presidents of Kazakhstan visited the Kingdom of Spain 8 times (N. Nazarbayev – 8 times, the last visit on February 5–6, 2013).
Kings of Spain visited Kazakhstan 7 times (official visits: Juan Carlos I – June 2007, Felipe VI – June 9–10, 2017).
Prime Ministers of Spain paid official visits to Kazakhstan 3 times (J.M. Aznar – October 1997, J.L. Zapatero – June 2011, M. Rajoy – September).
High-level contacts
On May 13–14, the first official visit of the Minister of Foreign Affairs of Kazakhstan E. Idrissov to Spain took place.
Spanish Foreign Ministers have visited Kazakhstan on several occasions (the latest visit – J.M. García-Margallo in April 2016).
Regular meetings of foreign ministers are held on the sidelines of major economic forums, as well as Kazakh-Spanish political consultations at the level of deputy foreign ministers (the latest took place on December 16, 2022 in Madrid).
On December 15–16, 2019, the Minister of Foreign Affairs of Kazakhstan M. Tleuberdi visited Madrid to participate in the 14th ASEM Foreign Ministers’ Meeting.
On July 5–6, 2021, Deputy Prime Minister – Minister of Foreign Affairs of Kazakhstan M. Tleuberdi paid an official visit to Spain.
On October 23, 2023, in Luxembourg, within the framework of the 20th EU-Kazakhstan Cooperation Council meeting, Deputy Prime Minister – Minister of Foreign Affairs of Kazakhstan M. Nurtleu held a bilateral meeting with the Minister of Foreign Affairs, EU and Cooperation of Spain J.M. Albares.
On September 25, 2024, on the sidelines of the UN General Assembly in New York, M. Nurtleu had a brief meeting with J.M. Albares.
From June 30 to July 3, 2025, Deputy Prime Minister – Minister of National Economy S. Zhumangarin participated in the 4th UN Conference on Financing for Development in Seville.
From October 27–31, 2025, Chairperson of the Constitutional Court of Kazakhstan E. Azimova participated in the 6th Congress of the World Conference on Constitutional Justice in Madrid.
Inter-Parliamentary Cooperation
On July 16–17, 2017, the Speaker of the Spanish Congress of Deputies A. Pastor paid a working visit to Astana.
On September 23–24, 2019, the Chairman of the Foreign Affairs Committee of the Spanish Senate A. Gutiérrez visited Astana to participate in the 4th Meeting of Speakers of Eurasian Parliaments.
On September 8, 2021, in Vienna, within the framework of the 5th World Conference of Speakers of Parliament, Chairman of the Mazhilis of Kazakhstan N. Nigmatulin met with the Speaker of the Spanish Congress of Deputies M. Batet.
On November 29, 2021, inter-parliamentary consultations were held in Madrid co-chaired by M. Yerman and P. Mari-Klose.
On March 2, 2022, consultations continued online.
On November 30, 2021, the inaugural meeting of the Kazakhstan–Spain inter-parliamentary cooperation group took place in Madrid.
On November 19, 2024, an online meeting of the renewed group was held.
On June 9–10, 2025, a delegation of the Spanish Senate led by the Chairman of the Foreign Affairs Committee J.I. Landaluce visited Astana.
The Spanish side delivered a letter from the President of the Senate P. Rollán to the Chairman of the Senate of Kazakhstan M. Ashimbayev inviting him to visit Madrid.
