POLITICAL COOPERATION
Contacts at the highest level:
President of Kazakhstan Kassym-Jomart Tokayev met with the President of Finland Sauli Niinistö at the 74th Session of the United Nations General Assembly in New York on September 25, 2019 and September 19, 2023. President K.Tokayev held a meeting with the President of Finland A.Stubb on the sidelines of the COP 29 Conference on November 12, 2024, and also had a telephone conversation on May 21 and December 4, 2024.
President of Finland M.Koivisto visited Kazakhstan on September 29, 1992. President of Finland T.Halonen visited Kazakhstan on December 1, 2010. President of Finland S.Niinistö visited Kazakhstan in 2013. He also attended the Congress of the Leaders of World and Traditional Religions in 2015 and the EXPO-2017 in Kazakhstan.
President of Kazakhstan N.Nazarbayev visited Finland in 1992, 2009 and 2018. President N.Nazarbayev also met with Finnish leaders at international events.
High-level contacts (2020-2024):
Minister of Foreign Affairs of Kazakhstan M.Tileuberdi met with the Minister for Foreign Affairs of Finland P.Haavisto on the sidelines of the 43rd Session of the UN Human Rights Council in Geneva on 24 February, 2020.
On May 13-14, 2021, the Minister for Foreign Trade and Development Cooperation of Finland V.Skinnari visited Kazakhstan, during which he was received by President K.Tokayev.
On February 14, 2022, at the initiative of the Finnish side, a telephone conversation took place between the Minister of Foreign Affairs M.Tleuberdi and the Minister for Foreign Affairs of Finland P. Haavisto.
On October 10-12, 2022, a Kazakh delegation headed by the Minister of Ecology, Geology and Natural Resources of Kazakhstan S.Brekeshev visited Finland.
On February 23-25, 2023, the Minister for Foreign Trade and Development Cooperation of Finland V.Skinnari visited Kazakhstan.
On November 30, 2023, on the sidelines of the OSCE Ministerial Council in Skopje, Deputy Prime Minister - Minister of Foreign Affairs M.Nurtleu met with the Minister of Foreign Affairs of Finland E.Valtonen.
On December 13, 2023, political consultations between Kazakhstan and Finland were held in Helsinki.
On April 11, 2024, the Minister for Foreign Trade and Development of Finland V.Tavio visited Kazakhstan to participate in the 13th meeting of the Kazakh-Finnish Intergovernmental Commission on Trade and Economic Cooperation.
INTER-PARLIAMENTARY COOPERATION
Visits to Finland:
- Chairman of the Majilis U.Mukhamedzhanov (June 1-2, 2010); - Chairman of the Majilis N.Nigmatulin (October 19-21, 2016);
- Deputy Chairman of the Senate A.Shakirov (September 23, 2022).
Visits to Kazakhstan:
- Speaker of the Parliament of Finland E.Heinäluoma (March 3-6, 2014);
- First Vice-Speaker of the Parliament of Finland M.Pekkarinen (December 2016 and June 21-23, 2017);
- Chairman of the Interparliamentary Friendship Group with Central Asia in the Parliament of Finland V.Skinnari (January 15-16, 2018);
- Member of the Parliament of Finland, Vice-Chairman of the OSCE PA, Special Representative of the OSCE PA for Central Asia P.Kauma (April 26, 2022);
- Delegation of the Inter-Parliamentary Friendship Group of the Parliament of Finland with Central Asia chaired by Member of the Parliament K.Kiljunen (November 25-29, 2022).
Inter-Parliamentary Friendship Groups were established in the Parliaments of Kazakhstan and Finland.

Kazakhstan and Finland adhere to the established practice of mutual support of initiatives and candidacies in international structures.
