Diplomatic relations between the Republic of Kazakhstan (RK) and the Republic of Tajikistan (RT) were established on January 7, 1993.

Interaction in the political sphere

Relations between the Republic of Kazakhstan and Republic of Tajikistan since the independence of the two countries have developed in a spirit of friendship and strategic partnership with a high level of political interaction. The legal basis for bilateral cooperation is made up of more than 80 documents that cover almost all areas of cooperation.

May 4-5, 2006 President of the Republic of Tajikistan E.Rahmon paid an official visit to Kazakhstan, during which 7 documents were signed and bilateral cooperation issues were also discussed.

On September 12-13, 2007 President N.Nazarbayev paid an official visit to Tajikistan, during which 6 bilateral documents were signed.

On May 12-13, 2008 President of the Republic of Tajikistan E.Rahmon paid an official visit to Astana. As a result of the visit, the Memorandum on the establishment of the Interstate Coordination Council and the Council of Foreign Ministers of the Republic of Kazakhstan and the Republic of Tajikistan was signed, the Agreement on the establishment of the Kazakhstan-Tajik private equity fund with an authorized capital of $ 100 million.

On November 24-25, 2010 Prime Minister of the Republic of Kazakhstan K.Masimov visited the Republic of Tajikistan. During the visit, he took part in the meeting of the Council of Heads of Governments of the SCO member states. An intergovernmental agreement on cooperation in the field of tourism was signed.

On September 3, 2011 the President of the Republic of Kazakhstan N.Nazarbayev paid a working visit to Dushanbe, where he took part in the meeting of CIS heads of state.

On the sidelines of the SCO Summit, held September 11-12, 2014 in Dushanbe, the President of Kazakhstan N.Nazarbayev met with the President of the Republic of Tajikistan E.Rahmon, President of the Russian Federation V.Putin and Chairman of the People's Republic of China Xi Jinping.

September 14-15, 2015 the official visit of the President of the Republic of Kazakhstan N.Nazarbayev to Tajikistan took place, as well as the Head of State attended the summit of the heads of the CSTO member states in Dushanbe. During the visit, a number of bilateral documents were signed, including the Strategic Partnership Agreement.

October 29-30, 2015 Prime Minister K.Massimov paid a visit to the meeting of the Council of Heads of Government of the CIS in Dushanbe.

As part of the preparatory work for the founding session of the General Assembly of the Islamic Organization for Food Security and the 7th session of the OIC Ministerial Conference on Food Security and Agricultural Development (Astana, April 26-28, 2016), February 8, 2016 visit of the Vice Minister of Agriculture of the Republic of Kazakhstan E.Kosherbayev in Dushanbe.

On February 10, 2016 Deputy Chairman of the Board of the Foreign Trade Chamber of the Republic of Kazakhstan A.Kanapiya visited Dushanbe. During the visit A.Kanapiya held a meeting with the Chairman of the Chamber of Commerce and Industry of the Republic of Tajikistan S.Said, where he discussed a wide range of issues of inter-chamber cooperation, as well as issues of mutual interest.

On February 18-19, 2016 a working visit of the Governer of East Kazakhstan region D.Akhmetov to Tajikistan was held to present the economic, industrial and investment potential of the East Kazakhstan region. In particular, during the meetings with Deputy Prime Minister A.Ibrohim, Minister of Agriculture M.Zokirzoda and representatives of business circles of the Republic of Tajikistan, D.Akhmetov in detail reported on the achievements of the East Kazakhstan region in the development of the mining sector, non-ferrous metallurgy, energy, machine building, agro-industrial complex.

October 24, 2016 the visit of the Chairman of the Committee of National Security of the Republic of Kazakhstan K.Masimov in Dushanbe.

November 25, 2016 an official visit of the Minister of Foreign Affairs of the Republic of Kazakhstan E.Iridisov to Tajikistan took place, in the framework of the preparation of the Republic of Kazakhstan for membership in the UN Security Council. During the visit, meetings were held with the President of the Republic of Tajikistan E.Rahmon and the Minister of Foreign Affairs of the Republic of Tajikistan S.Aslov.

June 8-9, 2017 President of the Republic of Tajikistan E.Rahmon took part in the SCO Summit in Astana, within the framework of which he also attended the opening ceremony of the International Specialized Exhibition "Astana Expo-2017".

September 10-11, 2017 Deputy Prime Minister of the Republic of Tajikistan A.Ibrokhim participated in the First Summit on Science and Technologies of the Organization of Islamic Cooperation in Astana.

February 2, 2018 Deputy Prime Minister M.Zokirzoda took part in the International Forum "Digital Agenda in the Epoch of Globalization" in Almaty.

On March 14, 2018 President of the Republic of Tajikistan E.Rahmon paid an official visit to Kazakhstan, during which 7 documents were signed, as well as issues of bilateral cooperation.

March 15, 2018 President of the Republic of Tajikistan E.Rahmon took part in the Working (Consultative) Meeting of the Heads of Central Asian States in Astana.

April 4-5, 2018 the working visit of the Minister of Defense and Aerospace Industry of the Republic of Kazakhstan B.Atamkulov to Tajikistan took place, during which at the meetings with the Prime Minister of the Republic of Tajikistan K.Rasulzoda, as well as heads of a number of ministries and departments of the republic, issues of expanding cooperation were discussed the two countries in the areas of the military-industrial complex and space activities.

On April 25-26, 2018 the First Deputy Prime Minister of the Republic of Kazakhstan, A.Mamin, paid a working visit. During meetings with President of the Republic of Tajikistan E.Rahmon, Prime Minister of the Republic of Tajikistan K.Rasulzoda and First Deputy Prime Minister of the Republic of Tajikistan D.Said, issues of expansion of trade and economic cooperation between the Republic of Kazakhstan and the Republic of Tajikistan were discussed.

Minister of Internal Affairs K.Kasimov took part in the International High-Level Conference "Counteraction to Terrorism and Prevention of Violent Extremism", which was held in Dushanbe on May 3-4, 2018.

On June 1, 2018 Prime Minister of the Republic of Kazakhstan B.Sagintayev took part in the meeting of the Heads of Government of the CIS in Dushanbe.

On June 20, 2018 Deputy Prime Minister of the Republic of Kazakhstan U.Shukeev paid a visit to participate in the International High-Level Conference "2018-2028 International Decade for Action "Water for Sustainable Development".

July 6, 2018 President of the Republic of Tajikistan E.Rahmon took part in the celebration of the 20th anniversary of Astana and the presentation of the International Financial Center "Astana".

On September 20, 2018 the Prosecutor General of the Republic of Kazakhstan K.Kozhamzharov took part in the 28th meeting of the Coordination Council of the Prosecutors General of the CIS member states and the 16th session of the Prosecutors General of the SCO member states.

On September 27, 2018 in Dushanbe, the Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs of the Republic of Kazakhstan G.Koishybayev met with the Minister of Foreign Affairs of the Republic of Tajikistan S.Mukhriddin in the framework of participation in the CIS Ministerial Council meeting.

On September 27-28, 2018 the President of Kazakhstan N.Nazarbayev visited Tajikistan to participate in meetings of the Council of the Heads of State of the CIS, during which a bilateral meeting was held with the President of the Republic of Tajikistan E.Rahmon.

October 11-12, 2018 Prime Minister Republic of Kazakhstan B.Sagintayev took part in the work of the SCO Heads of State Council in Dushanbe.

On November 2, 2018 the Prime Minister of the Republic of Tajikistan K.Rasulzoda took part in a meeting of the Council of CIS Heads of Government in Astana.

November 8, 2018 President of the Republic of Tajikistan E.Rahmon took part in a meeting of the Collective Security Treaty Organization of the Collective Security Treaty Organization in Astana.

On May 18, 2019 in Dushanbe, in the framework of the “Central Asia + Japan" Dialogue, the Minister of Foreign Affairs of Kazakhstan B.Atamkulov met with the President of the Republic of Tajikistan E.Rahmon.

May 29, 2019 President of the Republic of Tajikistan E.Rahmon took part in the EEU meeting in Nur-Sultan.

On June 14, 2019 in Dushanbe, within the framework of participation in the V Summit of the Conference on Interaction and Confidence Building Measures in Asia, the President of the Republic of Kazakhstan K.Tokayev met with the President of the Republic of Tajikistan, E.Rahmon, during which the state and prospects of bilateral relations were discussed.

On July 11-12, 2019, Prime Minister of Kazakhstan A.Mamin made an official visit to the Republic of Tajikistan.

On September 23-24, 2019 in Nur-Sultan the Chairman of the Assembly of Representatives of the Supreme Assembly of the Republic of Tajikistan Sh.Zukhurov, took part in the IV Meeting of Speakers of Parliaments of Eurasia.

On October 27-28, 2019, the Minister of Defense of the Republic of Kazakhstan N.Yermekbayev paid an official visit to Tajikistan, during which he met with the Minister of Defense of the Republic of Tajikistan Sh.Mirzo.
