Thanks to a far-sighted policy, the UAE has become associated not only with a country with huge reserves of energy resources, but also with a rapidly developing modern tourist, transport, logistics and manufacturing hub in the Middle East, which has taken an active course towards diversifying its economy along with the introduction of the latest technologies.
In this context, the United Arab Emirates intends to develop mutually beneficial and long-term cooperation with Kazakhstan. The appropriate conditions have been created for this. Firstly, Kazakhstan is a culturally close nation for the UAE. The nomadic lifestyle that our ancestors led for centuries, common spiritual, cultural, national values, and much more serve as a bridge connecting the two peoples.
Secondly, the UAE supports the ongoing domestic and foreign policy of Kazakhstan with its peace initiatives. Abu Dhabi, like Astana, always stands for respect for the basic principles of interstate relations, such as non-interference in the internal affairs of other states, respect for territorial integrity and sovereignty. Moreover, Kazakhstan has no disagreements with the United Arab Emirates on any issues. Our views on topical issues on the international agenda often coincide. These and other factors create the basis for the development of fruitful cooperation in all other areas.
Abu Dhabi supports all foreign policy initiatives of the Republic of Kazakhstan. The UAE is an active member of the CICA, a permanent participant in the Congress of World and Traditional Religions. The Emirates also supports Kazakhstan's initiative to establish an Islamic Food Security Organization.
The main event of this year was the first official visit of the President of the Republic of Kazakhstan Kassym-Jomart Tokayev to the UAE on January 27-28. The visit of the President of the Republic of Kazakhstan made it possible to discuss the current state of bilateral relations and gave impetus to the development of mutually beneficial cooperation in all spheres between the two fraternal countries.
Undoubtedly, the First President of the Republic of Kazakhstan, Nursultan Nazarbayev, played a key role both in the formation of modern Kazakhstan with its active and at the same time balanced foreign policy, and in establishing and creating a solid base for bilateral relations with the countries of the Arab world. The Kazakh leader's first meeting with the founder of the UAE, the late Sheikh Zayed bin Sultan Al Nahyan, took place in 1998 in Abu Dhabi.
One of the most significant events of 2019 in bilateral relations was the flight into space of the first Emirati cosmonaut Hazza al-Mansouri. On September 25, 2019, the SOYUZ MS-15 spacecraft with the first cosmonaut from the UAE launched from the Baikonur cosmodrome and docked with the International Space Station. The successful UAE space mission launched the establishment of close cooperation on the way to the development of joint projects at the Baikonur cosmodrome between Kazakhstan, Russia and the United Arab Emirates.
More than 30 years have passed since the establishment of diplomatic relations, and tremendous work has been done to develop trade, economic and investment partnerships, and expand cultural and humanitarian ties. At the same time, the steps taken by the two states to introduce the latest technologies and develop digitalization during the entry into the era of the fourth industrial revolution indicate the presence of huge unrealized potential and prospects for further expansion of bilateral cooperation in completely new sectors of the economy.
