Cooperation with Brazilian regions is expanding
Brasilia, February 14, 2025 – Ambassador of Kazakhstan to Brazil Bolat Nussupov visited the Representative Office of the State of Bahia to the Federal Government of Brazil and met with its head, Secretary Ms. Elizabeth Costa.
The agenda of the talks included issues of enhancing regional cooperation between Kazakhstan and the Brazilian state in the fields of economy, culture and education within the framework of the Memorandum of Partnership between the Karaganda region of Kazakhstan and the Brazilian state of Bahia. The document was signed on October 21, 2021 in Karaganda as part of the visit of the government delegation led by the Governor of the State of Bahia Rui Costa to Kazakhstan.
It should be noted that this visit was the first visit of the regional leadership of Brazil in the history of bilateral relations. One of its components, taking into account the high economic potential of the region, was an agreement to open an Honorary Consulate of Kazakhstan in the state of Bahia.
In this regard, the Ambassador expressed a request to expedite the consideration of the candidacy of businessman and public figure Alex Garcia for the post of Honorary Consul of the Republic of Kazakhstan in the state of Bahia. The parties also discussed the possibility of holding an economic forum in Salvador with a presentation of investment opportunities in Kazakhstan with the participation of local companies.
Given the federal structure of Brazil, regional cooperation is an important element in strengthening bilateral relations. Currently, partnerships between the regions of Kazakhstan and Brazil have been established between the Karaganda region and the state of Bahia (2021), the Almaty region and the state of Rio Grande do Sul. (2024). The possibility of establishing a regional partnership between the Brazilian state of Santa Catarina and one of the regions of the Republic of Kazakhstan is currently being considered.
Reference: The state of Bahia ranks fourth in Brazil in terms of population and fifth in area. The state's economy is dominated by mining, agriculture and livestock. A gigantic agro-industrial complex, the export of products is facilitated by the proximity of ports and a developed network of railways and highways. Currently, the state is implementing an investment project of the ERG company in the field of ore mining and infrastructure. The state of Bahia is a popular destination for domestic and foreign tourism.
