This year marks 175 years since the birth of Abay. A special commission on the anniversary began its work. Planned activities at the state and international levels. But our goal is not just to celebrate. The main thing is to expand the worldview and contribute to the spiritual development of the people.
Abay Kunanbayuly left a bright mark in our history as a philosopher, poet, enlightener, founder of new national literature, translator, composer. In his poems, songs and words of edification, the national flavor is clearly felt, the way of life and life, faith and language are reflected, and the spirit of the nation is subtly felt. That is why his work was appreciated over time as a unique phenomenon, a concept such as “the world of Abay” appeared.
Last year, a challenge relay race was held to recite the works of Abay. I supported the initiative of the girl Lyailim and took part in it. Pupils and scholars, businessmen and students, people of world renown for several months read Abai’s poems, quoted him “Words of edification”.
The Kazakhstanis turned to the creative heritage of Abay, recognizing it from a new perspective. This became an expression of due respect for Abai and at the same time an effective way of educating the younger generation. I believe that the challenge will continue in the year of the akyn’s anniversary!
Elbasy Nursultan Abishevich Nazarbayev in his program article “Looking into the future: the modernization of consciousness” noted the need for a revival of public consciousness. The preservation of national identity and its adaptation to modern realities is a matter of national importance. Only by modernizing our consciousness, we will open new opportunities for the development of the country in the XXI century.
I believe that the creative heritage of Abay can be of great help in this matter. The works of the great poet have not lost relevance. The philosophical reflections and conclusions of Abai remain spiritual food for all of us. In the matter of rebirth of the nation, one must take as a basis his work. In this case, you need to think about how to use them most effectively?
In this article I want to share my thoughts on the relevance of Abay's work for our time and what conclusions our people should draw from the works of the poet.

An example of national identity
Modernization does not mean breaking away from the past and opening the way to new values.
In fact, this is a phenomenon that seeks to develop our national heritage in line with today's positive trends. At the same time, we cannot bypass Abai. Because the great thinker more than a century ago called the nation to revive, renew, adapt to a new life.
"Even though times have changed and the world has changed, our people do not change their minds about Abai, and over time, they discover new aspects of his greatness and discover new secrets," he said.
Abai will always work with his native people, for centuries he will call the Kazakh people, the Kazakhs to the heights, to the heights, "- said the poet, emphasizing that the poet's legacy is valued as an eternal testament.
If we pay attention to Abai's works, we can see that he always sincerely wished the country progress and prosperity, and glorified this idea. And we know that the basis of progress is in education and science. Abai remembers with all his heart that the Kazakhs are constantly learning. "Don't brag about not finding science," he said, adding that he would not leave the garden until he had mastered the knowledge. "We don't want to sell science and look for animals," he said, noting that science is needed to make the country rich. In this context, we need to understand the moral precept of the great Abai: "Do not think for profit, think for yourself, demand more."
These conclusions are still relevant today. It is even more important than before. Because we see that the goal of science in the XXI century is to strive for heights, not to go too far.
And our task is not only to keep up with this progress, but also to take the lead.
To do this, first of all, we need to modernize education. Although a lot of work has been done to this end, there are still gaps in domestic education. I clearly outlined ways to improve it in my election program and at the August conference last year.
The adoption of the law "On the status of a teacher" is one of the good initiatives in this direction. This is a step towards improving quality education. In general, the role of the teacher is different in any society. Teachers play an important role in educating an educated and intelligent generation. It is the duty of all of us to respect and honor the teacher. Therefore, the state should raise the status of the teaching profession and create conditions for carefree work.
One of the noble deeds that Abay especially praised was language learning. In the twenty-fifth verse, the poet emphasizes what another language gives to a person: "Anyone who knows the language and art of everyone is equal to him, he does not beg too arrogantly."
Therefore, it is important to master the language in order to be on par with those who are ahead of us.
And in the current new historical situation, we must all pay attention to the development and promotion of our native language and raise its status. It is also important to give priority to learning English. The more languages our young people speak, the more opportunities they have. However, it is important to emphasize that they know their mother tongue. As Abai said, if the younger generation fully masters science, respects their language and is really a polyglot, it will only benefit our nation.
Today the world is changing not every day, but every hour. New tasks and new requirements are set in all areas. Innovations in science lead a person forward. The time has come to go beyond the mind. In order to keep pace with the times and move forward, we must ensure openness of consciousness. This step requires the ability to combine the advantages of civilization with national interests. At such times, we need to let go of our stereotypes.
This is the reason why Abai is dissatisfied with some actions and constantly criticizes them, saying that "they do not seek deep thought, deep science, they beat lies and gossip."
The poet encouraged people to master various arts. Realizing that all this was a matter of time, he spoke to his nation early. Even the idea of building an intellectual nation, which we are talking about now, can be said to have originated with Abai. The great thinker wanted to grow the nation with every word.
Interests of state affairs
We need to strengthen our statehood in order to grow and prosper as a sovereign state.
It is important to understand that the rule of law and public order is a common task. If the people do not respect the government, it is a criticism of our country. Therefore, it is necessary to explain to citizens, especially young people, the importance of respecting the state. At the same time, it is worth paying attention to Abai's legacy.
In his works, the great poet glorified the national ideal and raised the unity of the nation.
He raised the idea of creating a just society. Therefore, Abai's views are very valuable for the society of Kazakhstan in the XXI century and its prosperity and unity. Hakim Abai's principles are in line with the principles of a civilized state. Justice can only be established if the rule of law, transparency of the government and accountability to the people are at a high level, and civil society representatives are actively involved in the affairs of the state.
My concept of "a state that listens to the voice of the people" was proposed to develop the idea of a just society. A constructive dialogue between the government and society strengthens confidence in the state. Members of the government, including ministers and governors, should take into account the suggestions and wishes of citizens when making decisions on issues of state and public importance. I consider this to be the only condition for the formation of a just society, as Abai pointed out.
It is not for nothing that the great poet said, "The great Soviet is gone, the country has taken the whisper." It also means that the people are not happy with those who rule the country.
The government should always listen to the people, so as not to increase the number of our contemporaries, "there is no secret but whispers, there is no side to the peasant." We have established the National Public Trust Council to discuss and find solutions to the problems of the state and society. I meet with the members of the Council and closely monitor its work so that it does not become formal.
Abay's works also pay special attention to the issue of meritocracy. He did not judge people by their status, but by their demands and merits. The great poet guided the Kazakh youth.
Kazakhstan is currently in the process of political modernization. With the support of the President, a new generation of leaders began to come to power. Nevertheless, it is often said that the country needs radical political change. However, it is important to reach a national agreement on this issue, to honestly assess the capabilities of the state and to take responsibility for the task.
Those who fear change do not enrich the future of our country, they simply follow populist ideas.
Populism has become a global trend. In many parts of the world, there is no clear strategy, and the voices of groups seeking power through slogans are often heard. Abai says about people who are passionate about such glory: "Kut is furious and Keter sits for a day." In fact, this is a dangerous process that undermines the development of any country, weakens the uniqueness of the nation.
As Abai said, we should not be too proud, proud, arrogant, quarrelsome. We need to be clear about every step and carefully analyze what is happening in the world and in our country. It is better to put peace and unity above all, which is a guarantee of stability and development. In the interests of the state, first of all, let's keep the continuity, so that the sweat and hard work do not go to waste.
Only by pursuing such a policy can we achieve all our strategic goals and make Kazakhstan one of the most developed countries.

Compassionate of the new society
It is clear that the core of the new Kazakhstan will be a new society. At the same time, first of all, we must pay special attention to enhancing the dignity of our nation and improving the competitiveness of our people. It is also necessary to get rid of negative qualities that hinder the development of society and destroy our prosperity and unity.
Today, a number of intellectuals around the world warn that classical capitalism is in crisis and are skeptical about its future.
Because in the world there is a gap between rich and poor, educated and uneducated, urban and rural. The pace of this process is intensifying. If business was only for profit, educated people created a separate environment, each of them was responsible only for himself.
Cities are growing rapidly and small settlements are developing.
Scientists believe that all this is due to the weakening of social responsibility.
When will social responsibility be restored? Of course, this is not an easy task. The solution to this difficult problem should be sought in Abai's formula "Complete Man". The word "complete man" corresponds to the English word "A man of integrity". This is a characteristic of people who are very enterprising, self-confident, striving for goodness and kindness. This concept, which is now spreading, was explained by Abai as early as the nineteenth century.
Human life as a whole consists of various relationships. Without it, a person will be isolated from society. And relationships inevitably lead to mutual responsibility. This responsibility is violated when selfishness is involved. Therefore, Abai says: "Keep the mind, strength and heart the same, then you will be complete apart from the country," and says that a person needs a warm heart, apart from a bright mind and warm energy.
He always considers these three concepts in unity, but believes that the first two should be subordinated to the heart. This is the life philosophy of the Kazakh people.
Our people, living with such knowledge and understanding, are in a difficult situation and oppress other nations. Although he could not eat well, he decided to share a slice of bread. He always respected the elder, respected the younger, supported the stumbled and helped the fallen. By glorifying and conveying these values to the present day, our people have done their best to preserve themselves as a nation.
We need to re-examine Abai's concept of "complete man." Our scientists need to do new research in this area. I believe that the concept of "complete man" should, in fact, become the cornerstone of any sphere of our lives, public administration and education, business and family institutions.
One of the main themes of Abai's work is the fight against obesity. The poet always urges to be vigilant, not to be distracted by carelessness and laughter. He likes to work hard all the time. It also delves into the psychological aspects of the fight against obesity, proving that appropriate action can overcome anxiety. At the same time, attention was paid to the emotional intelligence, which we now talk about a lot. Pride and arrogance propagated the need to get rid of psychology, to work hard, to seek knowledge.
We are all familiar with the treasured thoughts in Abai's poems: "If you work, you will not be lazy, You will not be satisfied, you will not be satisfied" Everyone should be able to weave these key concepts in his mind and set an example for others with his tireless and honest work.
Our people know the value of work. We have not forgotten that the hard work of our parents in the rear has become a huge force that led to victory. Even today, ordinary working people have a lot to do. Recently, some of them were awarded state awards.
The most important thing is that in today's peacetime, every citizen should understand that their hard work directly contributes to the development of the country's economy.
Abai can be considered the leaven of business of his time, the motivator of diligence. In the works of the great thinker, he exemplifies those who have earned a living, the skills of learning to farm. It encourages the development of new ways of working to improve the quality of life. At the same time, the poet emphasizes initiative and professionalism. For example, in his tenth statement, he concludes, "Who will not be rich if he works hard, searches tirelessly, finds a job?"
According to Abai, in order to earn money, you need to learn crafts. Because "cattle are deprived, art is not deprived" (thirty-third black word). I think that these thoughts of the great poet are relevant for today's society in Kazakhstan. Therefore, today we consider the elimination of the psychology of dependence on raw materials, the maximum development of small and medium-sized businesses as one of the main priorities.
A person of world culture
Almost all modern civilized nations can be proud of their great historical figures. Among them are politicians, statesmen and public figures, commanders, poets and writers, veterans of art and culture. The Kazakh people are not without unique children. Abai has a special place among them. But we are not able to present our great thinker to the world at a decent level.
During my many years of diplomatic service, I often met with politicians and experts in various fields. I exchanged views with foreigners on many issues common to all mankind. In general, they are well aware of the political and economic achievements of Kazakhstan. And he is not familiar with our spiritual and cultural values. In this regard, the question arises: "Why do not we show the Kazakh identity and culture through Abai?"
Gulama Abai is a world-class genius from the Kazakh land. He gave the fruit of the mind to all mankind.
Our researchers, who are deeply rooted in Abai's poetic power, say that he was inexhaustible in Kazakh folklore, Eastern and Western rhetoric, Russian literature and historical works.
Abai's great thinking is also reflected in his religious tastes. "God is true, and His word is true, and the word of truth will never be false." It is obvious that he came to this conclusion by studying the works of Eastern and Western philosophers. And in the thirty-eighth verse, he fully expresses his view of God.
Theologians and philosophers, who assessed Abai's spirituality, paid special attention to his notion of a "perfect Muslim." The concept of "perfect Muslim" is probably applied not only to the Kazakhs, but to the entire Muslim world. Here is our thinker Abai, the ruler Abai - a person who continues to rise in the world through this religious view.
As you know, we hold traditional gatherings of all religions in the capital. There is a harmony between the purpose of such events and the position of the great Abai.
The poet's intention to preserve the purity of the soul of all mankind reminds us all.
It is known that the image of Abai as an artistic image through M. Auezov's novel "The Way of Abai" is highly valued in world literature. But this is only one aspect of recognizing Abai. In order to recognize the real Abai, the poet Abai, it is necessary to reveal the essence of the ideas expressed in his poems and prose. It must be translated into the world's major languages, preserving all its colors. It is difficult to say that we have achieved this. For example, Lao Tzu and Confucius in China, Dostoevsky and Tolstoy in Russia, and Voltaire and Rousseau in France. In the same way, we need to get to the point where all foreigners can name Abai at once in Kazakhstan. It would be a great honor if other people would pay attention to us and say, "The Kazakh people are the people of Abai."
No matter how we glorify Abai. His instructive life and true creativity are an example not only for the Kazakh people, but also for the world community. Abai's ideas about man and society, education and science, religion and tradition, nature and the environment, the state and power, language and communication have not lost their significance over the centuries. After all, the poet's legacy is the spiritual food of all mankind.
Abai's name continues to shine in the Kazakh people. If we cherish his words as our spiritual treasure, our country's prestige in the eyes of the world will grow.
First of all, we must promote Abai as the cultural capital of our nation. Let's not forget that civilized countries value the life, culture, literature and spirituality of the Kazakh people with the status and popularity of their world-class children. Therefore, it is necessary to introduce Abai to the world community as a brand of the new Kazakhstan. This is a sacred duty of today's generation.
The significance of the anniversary

This year, more than 500 events dedicated to the 175th anniversary of Abai will be organized at the international, national and regional levels. The main event in August will be an international scientific-practical conference "Abai's heritage and world spirituality", which will be held jointly with UNESCO in Semey. Also in October, Nur-Sultan will host an international conference on "Abai and the problems of spiritual renewal." At these gatherings, Abai's personality and legacy will be studied in detail, and his work will be used for the benefit of the new Kazakhstan in the XXI century.
One of the most important projects is the translation and publication of the works of the great poet in ten languages. In particular, Abai's works are translated into English, Arabic, Japanese, Spanish, Italian, Chinese, German, Russian, Turkish and French. Several documentaries about the life and heritage of the poet, his role in the development of Kazakh culture and the TV series "Abai" will be made.
The field of art is not left out of the poet's wedding. Theater and music festivals are held at the national and international levels. This year's competitions are dedicated to Abai's work. The state award for the best works in the field of literature and art will now be called the Abai State Prize.
The inauguration of Abai's personality and legacy will continue abroad. It is planned to establish "Abai Centers" at the embassies of Kazakhstan in Russia, France, Great Britain and other countries. It is necessary to organize these cultural events without waste.
The cemetery of the dynasty of Kunanbay Uskenbayevich in Akshoky village of East Kazakhstan region will be landscaped.
In addition, I believe that the Government should take the following measures to promote the personality of Abai:
Semipalatinsk region is one of the most sacred places in Kazakh history. Therefore, the city of Semipalatinsk, which has a special place in the spiritual development of the country, should be marked as a historical center. The region where the umbilical cord blood of the great Abai and Shakarim and Mukhtar Auezov was born deserves special respect. In this regard, we will comprehensively develop the city from a socio-economic point of view and modernize its historical and cultural facilities in accordance with the new requirements. I instruct the government to take appropriate measures in this regard.
As part of the anniversary year, it is necessary to beautify Abai's sacred place - the famous Zhidebay and create favorable conditions for the public who come to pay homage to the spirit of the great poet.
It is also necessary to pay special attention to Abai's state historical-cultural and literary-memorial reserve-museum "Zhidebay-Borili" and turn it into a center for scientific and educational work.
It is necessary to build a new building in Zhidebay called "Abai's heritage" specially designed for the museum.
The magazine "Abai", founded in 1918 in Semey by Mukhtar Auezov and Zhusupbek Aimautov and re-published in 1992, should be supported by the state.
These and other large-scale events will be held to pay homage to the spirit of the great Abai and to glorify his rich heritage. Therefore, I call on all the people of Kazakhstan to take an active part in this noble initiative.

Under the leadership of Elbasy and thanks to the broad support of the people, we have conquered many high peaks. We set an ambitious goal to become one of the fifty most successful states in the world, which we reached ahead of schedule.
Our next task is to enter the thirty most developed countries. I am sure that this milestone will be successfully overcome. And in achieving this goal, the legacy of Abay can help us. Today everyone should ask themselves: “Have we been able to adequately appreciate the words of Abai, and can we comprehend them?”
The celebration of the 175th anniversary of Abay should help us find ways to solve the great challenges facing the nation. On the eve of this anniversary, every Kazakhstani person would seriously think about his people and his country. What did Abai bequeath to us? What did Abai demand from us? What did Abai expect from us? What good deeds did Abai like? Could we learn these good deeds? What vices caused affliction of Abai? Have we learned from his worries?
It is enough to think about whether we have put into reality the five noble deeds bequeathed to the poet? Could we get rid of our five vices of the soul? If we ask these questions, we can understand and comprehend a lot.
The legacy of Abay is a valuable asset, paving the way for the unity and prosperity of our nation. Following Abay’s precepts in life, applying them in any field, we really will strengthen ourselves as a nation, achieve a lofty goal as a state.
The dream of Abai is the dream of the people. We must not spare our strength on the path to realizing the people's dreams and fulfilling the covenants of previous generations. The covenants and edifications of Abai will lead the new Kazakhstan of the 21st century to new heights.
