General Information
December 16, 1991 – Türkiye was the first country to recognize the independence of Kazakhstan.
March 2, 1992 – Diplomatic relations were established.
Since March 13, 2023 the Ambassador of the Republic of Türkiye to Kazakhstan is Mustafa Kapucu.
Since March 15, 2022 the Ambassador of the Republic of Kazakhstan to Türkiye is Yerkebulan Sapiyev.
The first diplomatic mission of our independent country abroad - the Embassy of the Republic of Kazakhstan in Türkiye was opened in October 1992 during the first official visit of the First President of the Republic of Kazakhstan N.A. Nazarbayev to Türkiye.
Kazakhstan has Consulates General in Istanbul, Antalya and Izmir, as well as 7 Honorary Consulates in the cities of Alanya, Bursa, Bitlis, Denizli, Eskisehir, Kocaeli and Mersin.
Türkiye has Consulates General in Almaty, Aktau and Turkistan, and an Honorary Consulate in Shymkent.
Political Cooperation
High-Level Meetings
Since gaining independence, the First President of the Republic of Kazakhstan N.A. Nazarbayev visited Türkiye 24 times on state, official and working visits. The President of the Republic of Kazakhstan K.K. Tokayev visited Türkiye 6 times on state, official and working visits. The Presidents of Türkiye visited Kazakhstan 17 times, and the Prime Ministers of the Republic of Türkiye visited 6 times. The President of Türkiye R.T. Erdogan visited Kazakhstan 5 times.
On October 21-23, 2009 during the official visit of the First President of the Republic of Kazakhstan N.A. Nazarbayev to Türkiye, an Agreement on Strategic Partnership was signed.
On May 22-24, 2012 within the framework of the official visit of the Prime Minister of Türkiye R.T. Erdogan to Kazakhstan, a Joint Statement on the establishment of the High-Level Strategic Cooperation Council and the "New Synergy" Joint Economic Program were signed.
On October 11-12, 2012 during the official visit of President N.A. Nazarbayev to the Republic of Türkiye, the 1st meeting of the High-Level Strategic Cooperation Council between the Republic of Kazakhstan and the Republic of Türkiye was held.
In April 2015 within the framework of the official visit of the President of Türkiye R.T. Erdogan to Kazakhstan, the 2nd meeting of the High-Level Strategic Cooperation Council was held.
On September 8-10, 2017 the official visit of the President of the Republic of Türkiye R.T. Erdogan to Kazakhstan took place, and he participated in the OIC Summit on Science and Technology in Astana.
On September 12-13, 2018 President N.A. Nazarbayev participated in the 3rd meeting of the High-Level Strategic Cooperation Council during his official visit to Türkiye.
On November 12, 2021 a working visit of the President of the Republic of Kazakhstan K.K. Tokayev to Türkiye took place to participate in the 8th Summit of the Turkic Council held in Istanbul.
On May 10-11, 2022 a state visit of the President of the Republic of Kazakhstan K.K. Tokayev to Türkiye took place. Following the visit, a "Joint Statement on Enhanced Strategic Partnership" between the two countries, as well as 6 intergovernmental and 8 interdepartmental documents were signed.
On October 12-13, 2022 the state visit of the President of the Republic of Türkiye R.T. Erdogan to Kazakhstan and the 4th meeting of the High-Level Strategic Cooperation Council took place, and 6 interdepartmental documents were signed. Within the framework of the visit, the President of the Republic of Türkiye participated in the 6th CICA Summit.
On March 15-16, 2023 a working visit of the President of the Republic of Kazakhstan K.K. Tokayev to Türkiye took place to participate in the Extraordinary Ankara Summit of the Organization of Turkic States.
On June 3, 2023 the President of the Republic of Kazakhstan K.K. Tokayev participated in the inauguration ceremony of the 13th President of Türkiye R.T. Erdogan.
On November 3, 2023 a working visit of the President of the Republic of Türkiye R.T. Erdogan to Kazakhstan took place to participate in the 10th Summit of the Organization of Turkic States. The Heads of State held a bilateral meeting.
On July 4, 2024 a working visit of the President of the Republic of Türkiye R.T. Erdogan to Kazakhstan took place to participate in the Shanghai Cooperation Organization summit held in Astana.
On November 12, 2024 a bilateral meeting of the President of the Republic of Kazakhstan K.K. Tokayev with the President of the Republic of Türkiye R.T. Erdogan took place within the framework of the COP-29 summit held in Baku.
On July 28-29, 2025 an official visit of the President of the Republic of Kazakhstan K.K. Tokayev to Türkiye took place to participate in the 5th meeting of the High-Level Strategic Cooperation Council. During the visit, 2 interstate, 2 intergovernmental and 16 interdepartmental documents were signed.
On April 16-17, 2026 a working visit of the President of the Republic of Kazakhstan K.K. Tokayev to Türkiye took place to participate in the 5th Antalya Diplomacy Forum.
Cooperation between Foreign Policy Institutions
On April 19-20, 2018 the Minister of Foreign Affairs of the Republic of Kazakhstan K. Abdrakhmanov paid an official visit to Türkiye.
On May 24, 2019 the visit of the Minister of Foreign Affairs of the Republic of Türkiye M. Cavusoglu to Kazakhstan took place. The visit was assessed as a show of support for the President of the Republic of Kazakhstan K.K. Tokayev ahead of the presidential elections.
On March 17-18, 2021 an official visit of the Deputy Prime Minister - Minister of Foreign Affairs of the Republic of Kazakhstan M. Tleuberdi to Türkiye took place.
On June 17-20, 2021 the Deputy Prime Minister - Minister of Foreign Affairs of the Republic of Kazakhstan M. Tleuberdi visited Türkiye to participate in the "Antalya Diplomacy Forum".
On September 26-27, 2021 Minister M. Tleuberdi participated in the extraordinary meeting of the Council of Foreign Ministers of the Cooperation Council of Turkic-Speaking States on the situation in Afghanistan, held in Istanbul.
On October 11-12, 2021 the Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs of Türkiye S. Önal participated in the 6th meeting of the CICA Ministers of Foreign Affairs in Astana.
On February 24, 2022 the visit of the Minister of Foreign Affairs of Türkiye M. Cavusoglu to Kazakhstan and the 7th meeting of the Kazakhstan-Türkiye Joint Strategic Planning Group took place.
On September 10-11, 2023 the Minister of Foreign Affairs of Türkiye H. Fidan paid an official visit to Kazakhstan and was received by the President of the Republic of Kazakhstan K.K. Tokayev.
On March 1-3, 2024 the Deputy Prime Minister – Minister of Foreign Affairs of the Republic of Kazakhstan M. Nurtleu visited Türkiye to participate in the 3rd "Antalya Diplomacy Forum".
On September 6, 2024 bilateral political consultations were held in Astana at the level of Deputy Ministers of Foreign Affairs.
On June 21-22, 2025 the Deputy Prime Minister – Minister of Foreign Affairs of the Republic of Kazakhstan M. Nurtleu visited Türkiye to participate in the 51st session of the OIC Council of Foreign Ministers.
On July 9, 2025 the next round of bilateral political consultations was held in Ankara at the level of Deputy Ministers of Foreign Affairs.
On February 2, 2026 the visit of the Minister of Foreign Affairs of the Republic of Kazakhstan Y. Kosherbayev to Türkiye and the 8th meeting of the Kazakhstan-Türkiye Joint Strategic Planning Group took place.
On April 18, 2026 the Minister of Foreign Affairs of the Republic of Kazakhstan Y. Kosherbayev participated in the meeting of the OTS Council of Foreign Ministers held within the framework of the 5th Antalya Diplomacy Forum.
