Cultural and Humanitarian Cooperation

Cultural and Humanitarian Cooperation

Kazakhstan places great importance on developing cultural and humanitarian relations with African countries. The Embassy of the Republic of Kazakhstan in Ethiopia consistently organizes various events to foster intercultural dialogue and cooperation, introduce the Ethiopian public to Kazakhstan's history, culture, art, and traditions, and develop educational, sports, and tourism ties.

In February 2020, to promote Kazakh culture, the "Abai" cultural center was opened at the Embassy of Kazakhstan in Ethiopia. The center holds various events to familiarize Kazakhstan's friends in Ethiopia with the culture, traditions, and customs of the Kazakh people.

Cooperation in Sports

Cooperation in Culture and Arts

Kazakhstan and Ethiopia cooperate effectively within the framework of UNESCO. In 2022, Ethiopia supported Kazakhstan on the issue of preserving the Mausoleum of Khoja Ahmed Yasawi on the UNESCO World Heritage list and endorsed the Kazakh resolution on this matter.
The Embassy of Kazakhstan in Ethiopia also actively works to promote Kazakh culture, traditions, and customs, and informs about the activities and role of the Assembly of People of Kazakhstan in maintaining tolerance and stability in a multi-ethnic society. It highlights the role and activities of the Congress of Leaders of World and Traditional Religions in developing recommendations for solving global problems of peace and stability. The Embassy uses the media to raise public awareness in its host country about the contributions of prominent Kazakh historical figures to the formation and development of Kazakhstan.

Despite the geographical distance, Kazakhstan and Ethiopia share many similarities in culture and traditions. For example, the ancient board games "Togyzkumalak" and the Ethiopian "Gebeта" ("Mancala"), the Kazakh "Kobyz" and the Ethiopian musical instrument "Masinko," as well as tug-of-war, are just a small part of our shared cultural heritage.
