Kuwait City, March 24, 2022 - Deputy Prime Minister - Minister of Foreign Affairs of the Republic of Kazakhstan, Mukhtar Tileuberdi, paid his first official visit to Kuwait. During the visit, the Foreign Minister held talks with the Minister of Foreign Affairs of Kuwait Sheikh Ahmed Nasser Al-Sabah.
The parties reviewed the current state and prospects of bilateral cooperation, noting the positive dynamics of Kazakh-Kuwaiti relations. The importance of deepening trade, economic and investment partnership was stressed.
Special attention was paid to the importance of activating the work of the Kazakh-Kuwaiti Intergovernmental Commission, designed to ensure the further development of mutually beneficial partnership. Starting this year, the Foreign Ministers of both countries will co-chair this commission.
The Foreign Ministers of Kazakhstan and Kuwait expressed satisfaction with the level and content of interaction within the framework of multilateral cooperation. A thorough exchange of views took place on topical issues of the regional and international agenda.
Following the talks, a Joint Statement was adopted by the Foreign Ministers of Kazakhstan and Kuwait.
During the visit, Tileuberdi met with the Prime Minister of Kuwait Sheikh Sabah Al-Sabah and conveyed the invitation of the President of Kazakhstan Kassym-Jomart Tokayev to the Emir of Kuwait Sheikh Nawaf Al-Ahmed Al-Jaber Al-Sabah to take part in the VI CICA Summit, which will be held in October this year in Nur-Sultan.
Discussions were also held with the Minister of Finance, Minister of State for Economy and Investment - Chairman of the Board of Directors of the Kuwait Investment Authority Sovereign Fund Abdul-Wahab al-Rusheid. Tileuberdi acquainted the interlocutor with the activities of the Astana International Financial Center and encouraged the Kuwaiti side to cooperate with the AIFC.
The Kazakh Foreign Minister also held a meeting with the head of the large Kuwaiti investment holding Alshaya Group, Mohammed Al-Shaya. The Kuwaiti businessman expressed interest in expanding the presence of his company in Kazakhstan. Currently, the company is considering plans to expand the Starbucks coffee chain in Kazakhstan, Mothercare children's clothing stores, as well as attract new international trade brands such as Victoria's Secret, American Eagle, Claire's and others.
