Kazakh Foreign Minister Met with the Ambassador of Georgia

Astana, January 30, 2026 – Minister of Foreign Affairs of the Republic of Kazakhstan Yermek Kosherbayev held a meeting with Ambassador of Georgia Levan Diasamidze.

During the meeting, the parties discussed current issues on the bilateral agenda and confirmed their mutual interest in further strengthening Kazakh-Georgia relations based on traditional friendship and partnership.

The Kazakh Foreign Minister welcomed the well-established regular contacts between the foreign ministries of the two countries, noting that inter-ministerial political consultations and work of the Intergovernmental Commission on Trade and Economic Cooperation serve as important mechanisms of bilateral cooperation.

A special attention was paid to the development of trade, economic and investment cooperation, as well as the expansion of collaboration in the transport and logistics sector, including projects within the framework of the Trans-Caspian International Transport Route (the “Middle Corridor”).

Following the meeting, the parties reaffirmed their readiness to continue the constructive dialogue across the full spectrum of bilateral cooperation.

Kazakhstan Assumes Chairmanship in the Central Asian Nuclear-Weapon-Free Zone

Representatives of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Kazakhstan participated in the annual consultative meeting of the States parties to the Treaty on a Nuclear-Weapon-Free Zone in Central Asia.

During the meeting, Kazakhstan officially assumed chairmanship functions for 2026. In addition, the parties discussed joint work in 2025 and plans for the current year, including closer coordination within the framework of the United Nations.

The delegation of  Kazakhstan, as Chairman, noted that this year marks the 20th  anniversary since the signing (in 2006) of the Treaty in Semipalatinsk  and stressed the importance of close cooperation within key fora in the field of disarmament and non-proliferation, including the Review Conferences of the Treaty on the Non-Proliferation of Nuclear Weapons (NPT) and the Treaty on the Prohibition of Nuclear Weapons. (TPNW).

Commemorative events are also planned during this year by the foreign ministries of the Central Asian states.

The Treaty on the Central Asian Nuclear-Weapon-Free Zones (the "Semipalatinsk Treaty") was signed by Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan, Tajikistan, Turkmenistan and Uzbekistan on September 8, 2006 in Semipalatinsk and entered into force on March 21, 2009 after ratification by all five parties.

The Semipalatinsk Treaty has a number of unique features: it created the first nuclear-weapon-free zone in the northern hemisphere, in a region that once served as a testing ground for the active deployment and testing of nuclear weapons, and where intensive uranium mining for military purposes was conducted. Moreover, among other similar zones, CANWFZ stands out for having the longest land border with two nuclear-weapon States.

Kazakhstan and Poland Align Positions on a Broad Range of Issues Related to Further Development of Bilateral Cooperation

Astana, January 29, 2026 – The Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the Republic of Kazakhstan hosted the next round of political consultations between the foreign ministries of Kazakhstan and Poland. During the meeting, a wide range of issues related to political cooperation, trade and economic interaction, as well as cultural and humanitarian ties, were discussed.

“Kazakhstan views Poland as an important political and economic partner within the European Union and is interested in further expanding bilateral cooperation,” emphasized Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs of the Republic of Kazakhstan Arman Issetov.

In turn, Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs of Poland Wojciech Zajączkowski noted that Kazakhstan is a key partner of Poland in Central Asia and expressed readiness to develop cooperation across all areas of mutual interest.

The diplomats paid special attention to the trade and economic agenda, noting the significant potential for further expansion of mutual trade and investment. In particular, bilateral trade volume amounted to 1.1 billion US dollars in the first 11 months of 2025 (+6%), including exports of 496.3 million US dollars (+10.2%) and imports of 605.9 million US dollars (+2.7%). Approximately 150 Polish companies operate in Kazakhstan. Since 2005, the gross inflow of investments from Poland into Kazakhstan has exceeded 600 million US dollars. Priority areas of bilateral cooperation include energy, transport, logistics, agriculture, education, and IT.

The parties also reviewed preparations for the upcoming meeting of the Intergovernmental Commission, which serves as a key mechanism for advancing trade and economic cooperation.

In addition, the diplomats exchanged views on current international and regional issues, reaffirming their commitment to continued cooperation within multilateral frameworks and international organizations.

Kazakhstan and Poland Aim to Expand Bilateral Cooperation

Astana, January 29, 2026 – Minister of Foreign Affairs of the Republic of Kazakhstan Yermek Kosherbayev received Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs of Poland Wojciech Zajączkowski, who arrived in Astana to participate in political consultations between the foreign ministries of the two countries.

During the meeting, the diplomats discussed key issues related to deepening Kazakh-Polish partnership in the political, trade and economic, as well as cultural and humanitarian spheres, and exchanged views on current international and regional developments.

Minister Kosherbayev noted that Poland is one of Kazakhstan’s key partners within the European Union. In this regard, it was emphasized that diplomatic relations between the two countries span 34 years, while their historical roots and ties go back much further.

For his part, Deputy Minister Zajączkowski reaffirmed Warsaw’s commitment to the consistent strengthening of cooperation with Astana, highlighting the importance of maintaining the high level of Kazakh-Polish relations.

The sides exchanged views on trade, economic and investment cooperation and discussed the schedule of bilateral events planned for 2026.

Following the meeting, the parties confirmed their mutual interest in continuing a substantive dialogue aimed at enhancing comprehensive cooperation between Kazakhstan and Poland.

Implementation of Almaty Airport’s Investment Plans Discussed at the Kazakh Foreign Ministry

Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs of the Republic of Kazakhstan Alibek Kuantyrov and Deputy Chairman of the Management Board of Kazakh Invest National Company JSC Madiyar Sultanbek held a meeting with Goker Kose, President of Almaty International Airport JSC, during which issues related to the implementation of investment plans for the development of the country’s largest aviation hub were discussed.

The parties reviewed the current status of projects aimed at expanding airport infrastructure, increasing capacity, and improving the quality of passenger and cargo services. It was noted that TAV Airports, the operator of Almaty International Airport, participates in the work of the Foreign Investors’ Council under the President of the Republic of Kazakhstan in observer status.

Within the framework of the meeting, information was presented on the strategic priorities of Almaty Airport as a key hub for international and regional air transportation. During the meeting, Goker Kose presented the current vision for the development of Almaty International Airport, outlined the key stages of the investment program, and addressed practical issues related to the phased implementation of projects, infrastructure load, and further capacity expansion. Particular attention was paid to ensuring sustainable growth of passenger and cargo traffic and improving the airport’s operational efficiency.

Deputy Minister Kuantyrov noted that projects in the field of aviation infrastructure require a balanced approach, taking into account the country’s long-term transport priorities, investors’ interests, and the sustainable development of the urban environment. According to him, the state considers such initiatives an important element in forming a competitive transport system and is ready for further dialogue on issues related to creating predictable conditions for the implementation of investment decisions.

Following the discussion, the parties confirmed their interest in further interaction and coordination of actions to support Almaty Airport’s investment initiatives. It was emphasized that the development of aviation infrastructure is regarded as one of the key factors for increasing Kazakhstan’s transit potential, boosting business activity, and integrating the country into international logistics and tourism routes.

International Humanitarian Cooperation was Discussed at the Kazakh Foreign Ministry

First Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs of the Republic of Kazakhstan Yerzhan Ashikbayev received Biljana Milosevic, Head of the International Committee of the Red Cross (ICRC) Regional Delegation for Central Asia.

Biljana Milosevic expressed gratitude for Kazakhstan’s continued support for the ICRC in carrying out its humanitarian mission. She highly commended the country’s efforts in promoting the Global Initiative to Galvanize Political Commitment to International Humanitarian Law, as well as its contribution to protecting the values of humanism, advancing the sustainable development goals, and promoting international peace and security at regional and international platforms.

First Deputy Minister Ashikbayev reaffirmed Kazakhstan’s commitment to close cooperation with the ICRC and further support for global efforts aimed at ensuring full respect for international humanitarian law, strengthening collective ethical and legal responsibility.

The interlocutors discussed further work within the framework of the Global Initiative to Galvanize Political Commitment to International Humanitarian Law, as well as the preparations for the High-Level Conference on Humanity in War, to be held in Amman, Jordan at the end of 2026.

The parties confirmed their mutual interest in further strengthening long-term cooperation between Kazakhstan and the ICRC at the global, regional and national levels.

The ICRC is an independent non-governmental organization whose primary objective is to provide assistance to victims of war, violence and humanitarian disasters worldwide. The organization has been present in Central Asia since 1992, with its Regional office based in Tashkent. In 2019, the ICRC Mission opened its office in Astana.

The Global Initiative to Galvanize Political Commitment to International Humanitarian Law was launched on the sidelines of the 79th session of the United Nations General Assembly in New York in September 2024 by Kazakhstan, Brazil, Jordan, China, France and South Africa jointly with the International Committee of the Red Cross.

Senior Officials of the “Central Asia – Germany” Format Identified Priority Areas for Further Cooperation

Deputy Foreign Minister of the Republic of Kazakhstan Arman Issetov took part in the Senior Officials’ Meeting of the «Central Asia– Germany» format. The meeting was attended by senior officials from the foreign ministries of Germany, Kyrgyzstan, Tajikistan, Turkmenistan and Uzbekistan.

The participants of the meeting held substantive discussions on the current state and prospects for further strengthening regional cooperation in the trade and economic, transport, environmental and humanitarian fields.

In his remarks, Deputy Foreign Minister Issetov noted that in recent years cooperation between the Central Asian countries and Germany has reached a new level.

Today, priority sectors for new cooperation initiatives in the areas of sustainable development and enhanced regional connectivity were identified.

At the end of the meeting, the parties agreed to maintain working contacts on all relevant issues.

Kazakhstan and ExxonMobil – Strengthening Strategic Partnership in Energy Sector

Minister of Foreign Affairs of the Republic of Kazakhstan Yermek Kosherbayev held a meeting with Senior Vice President of ExxonMobil Peter Larden.

During the meeting, the sides discussed ExxonMobil’s current operations in Kazakhstan, including its participation in key energy projects, and also considered avenues for further expanding investment cooperation and strengthening mutually beneficial economic ties.

Minister Kosherbayev highlighted the important role of ExxonMobil as one of the Kazakhstan’s key partners in the oil and gas sector, emphasizing the company’s contribution to the implementation of strategic projects, the stability of the energy market, and the activities of the Foreign Investors’ Council under the President of the Republic of Kazakhstan.

In turn, Senior Vice President Larden highly appreciated Kazakhstan’s efforts to improve the investment climate and create favorable conditions for foreign investors, expressing readiness to continue long-term cooperation in the interests of sustainable development of the country’s energy sector.

ExxonMobil has been operating in Kazakhstan since 1993 and is one of the largest foreign investors in the country’s oil and gas sector. The company participates in the implementation of strategically significant projects such as Tengiz, Kashagan and the Caspian Pipeline Consortium, covering the exploration, production and transportation of hydrocarbons.

Kazakhstan and Israel Interested in Elevating Bilateral Cooperation to a New Level

Astana, January 27, 2026 – Minister of Foreign Affairs of the Republic of Kazakhstan Yermek Kosherbayev held talks with Minister of Foreign Affairs of the State of Israel Gideon Sa’ar, who arrived in Astana on an official visit.

During the meeting, the sides discussed the current state and prospects for the development of political dialogue, trade, economic and investment ties, cooperation in the field of tourism, as well as the exchange of experience in science, education and healthcare. Particular attention was paid to issues of technology transfer and the expansion of practical interaction between relevant government agencies and business communities of the two countries.

As part of the visit, the 12th round of political consultations between the foreign ministries of the two countries was held, during which issues on the international and regional agenda were discussed, including initiatives aimed at promoting peaceful settlement and strengthening confidence in the Middle East. In this context, the sides exchanged views on Kazakhstan’s participation in the activities of the Gaza Board of Peace, as well as cooperation within the framework of the Abraham Accords.

“Since the establishment of diplomatic relations in April 1992, we have built comprehensive cooperation based on mutual respect and trust and achieved significant progress in political, economic and cultural interaction. Your current visit to Astana is a confirmation of our shared interest in elevating our partnership to a new level,” Minister Kosherbayev emphasized during the meeting with his Israeli counterpart.

The Head of Kazakhstan’s Foreign Ministry also highlighted the intensification of dialogue characteristic of the current stage of bilateral cooperation, noting the important role played by the leaders of the two states.

Emphasizing the solid legal framework underpinning bilateral relations, Minister Kosherbayev noted the high potential for expanding trade, investment and technological cooperation, as well as Kazakhstan’s interest in implementing joint projects with high added value, including in such areas as agrotechnologies and food industry; healthcare, pharmaceuticals and medical technologies; infrastructure and logistics; energy efficiency and renewable energy sources. He also noted that Kazakhstan ranks among global leaders in digital technologies according to the UN Online Services Index and the World Bank GovTech Maturity Index, and invited Israeli companies to engage in active cooperation.

In turn, the Israeli Foreign Minister confirmed readiness to expand cooperation across the full spectrum of areas of mutual interest, emphasizing the importance of strengthening bilateral economic and cultural-humanitarian ties.

Following the 12th round of political consultations, Memoranda of Cooperation on diplomatic training and public diplomacy were signed, as well as a Memorandum of Intent to conclude an Agreement between the Government of the Republic of Kazakhstan and the Government of the State of Israel on visa exemption for holders of national passports in order to promote tourism exchanges.

As part of the visit, a business forum involving business circles of both countries was also organized, during which meetings were held in B2B and B2G formats. Prospects for the implementation of joint projects in priority areas such as high-tech agriculture, water resource management and digital technologies were discussed.

Diplomatic relations between Kazakhstan and Israel were established on 10 April 1992. In August 1992, the Embassy of Israel was opened in Kazakhstan. In May 1996, the Embassy of the Republic of Kazakhstan was opened in the State of Israel.

Trade turnover between Kazakhstan and Israel for January–November 2025 amounted to 162.4 million US dollars (exports – 92.1 million US dollars, imports – 70.3 million US dollars).

This is the first visit of G. Sa’ar to Astana, as well as the first official visit of an Israeli Foreign Minister to Kazakhstan in the past 16 years.

Kazakh Foreign Minister Received Ambassador of Germany

Astana, January 26, 2026 – Minister of Foreign Affairs of the Republic of Kazakhstan Yermek Kosherbayev received Ambassador of the Federal Republic of Germany Monika Iwersen.

During the meeting, the sides reviewed bilateral relations and discussed priorities for further cooperation. They agreed to strengthen ties in trade, investment and cultural exchange.

Minister Kosherbayev emphasized the need to advance joint investment projects and increase business-to-business engagement.

German Ambassador reaffirmed Berlin’s commitment to deepening cooperation with Astana, both bilaterally and in international forums.

In addition, an exchange of views took place on current issues of the interregional and international agenda.
