Diplomatic relations between the Republic of Kazakhstan and Turkmenistan were established on October 5, 1992.

The Consulate of the Republic of Kazakhstan in Turkmenbashi city began to function in December 2014 (Decree of the Government of the Republic of Kazakhstan dated July 5, 2014 No. 773).

Since Аugust 2023, Zhanibek Zhumbergenov has been the Consul - Head of the Consulate of the Republic of Kazakhstan in Turkmenbashi city.

The consular post of the Republic of Kazakhstan carries out its functions to protect the rights and interests of citizens of the Republic of Kazakhstan abroad, and also provides services for citizens of the Republic of Kazakhstan and foreign citizens in accordance with the current regulatory legal acts of the Republic of Kazakhstan, Consular Charter of the Republic of Kazakhstan as well as Vienna Convention on Consular Relations of 1963, to which the Republic of Kazakhstan acceded in the spring of 1993.
