Diplomatic relations between the Republic of Kazakhstan and the Islamic Republic of Iran were established on January 29, 1992.
In 1993, the Embassy of the Republic of Kazakhstan was opened in Tehran.
Mr. Askhat Orazbay has been Ambassador of the Republic of Kazakhstan to the Islamic Republic of Iran since January 2019.
The Embassy operates within the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Kazakhstan and represents Kazakhstan’s interests in Iran.
The Embassy’s main functions are as follows:
- provision of Kazakhstan’s national interests and implementation of the country's foreign policy course in Iran;
- protection of rights and interests of citizens and legal entities of the Republic of Kazakhstan in the Islamic Republic;
- development of co-operation of the Republic of Kazakhstan with Iran, assistance for Kazakhstan’s state bodies and public organizations as well as representatives of Kazakh business communities in establishing contacts and developing relations with the Islamic Republic;
- participation at the preparation of the international agreements of Kazakhstan with Iran and proposals on signing, fulfilling and terminating the agreements, as well as establishing control over the fulfillment of the agreements between the two countries;
- consular issues;
The Embassy’s website is presented to familiarize the general public with the activities of the Kazakhstan’s diplomatic mission in Tehran, as well as to provide information support to Iranian nationals, Kazakhstani citizens temporarily residing in Iran and foreigners intended to visit Kazakhstan as tourists or establish business contacts with the country.
