Diplomatic relations between the Republic of Kazakhstan and the People's Republic of China were entered into on January 3, 1992. The Embassy of Kazakhstan in China had been set up in December 1992. Since April 2022, Shakhrat Nuryshev has been the Ambassador of the Republic of Kazakhstan to the People's Republic of China.

The diplomatic mission is affiliated to the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the Republic of Kazakhstan and acts for and on behalf of the Republic of Kazakhstan in China.

The main objectives of the Embassy are:

- serve national interests, implement the foreign policy of the Republic of Kazakhstan in the People's Republic of China;

- protect the rights and interests of citizens and legal entities of the Republic of Kazakhstan in China;

- develop cooperation between the Republic of Kazakhstan and the People's Republic of China, assist to public bodies, community-based organisations and business agents of Kazakhstan in making contacts and strengthening relations with China;

- take part in the preparation of draft international treaties of the Republic of Kazakhstan with the People's Republic of China, proposals for the contracting, the implementation and termination of treaties, follow-up treaties between the two countries;

- сonsular functions;

- other functions.

The Embassy of the Republic of Kazakhstan in the People's Republic of China is also the diplomatic mission of Kazakhstan in the Democratic People's Republic of Korea.
