Kazakhstan is constantly working on the reorientation of the oil and gas sector from a raw material orientation to the production of products with high added value, i.e. the development of the petrochemical industry.
Petrochemistry is a capital-intensive, high-tech industry with a significant multiplicative effect affecting related sectors of the economy.
In order to create a cluster for the integrated development of world-class petrochemical industries for deep processing of hydrocarbon raw materials and the production of a wide range of competitive petrochemical products with high added value, a Special economic zone "National Industrial Petrochemical Technopark"was created.
Also, in order to successfully implement investment projects, a number of state support measures have been taken, in particular, within the framework of the Law of the Republic of Kazakhstan "On Gas and Gas Supply", the state regulates prices and volumes of hydrocarbon raw materials for petrochemical industries (commercial and liquefied petroleum gas).
In addition, a mechanism for evaluating the effectiveness of investment projects has been defined within the Rules for forming a list of investment projects for the production of petrochemical products.
A number of production facilities producing export-oriented petrochemical products are currently operating in Kazakhstan. Due to the introduction of new enterprises and the increase in production volumes by existing Kazakh plants, the production of petrochemical products is growing every year.
At the same time, the construction of the first gas chemical complex in Kazakhstan for the production of polypropylene with a capacity of 500 thousand tons/year is underway in Atyrau region. The project implementation will allow to produce more than 70 types of homopolymers and 2 types of polypropylene copolymer.
Also, a project for the production of polypropylene and octane-boosting additives for gasoline is under construction in Shymkent (Turkestan region).
Projects for processing gas into petrochemical products, such as polyethylene, butadiene, urea, methanol, olefins and others, are at various stages of development.
