Carbon monoxide!

Carbon monoxide!

The most terrible property of carbon monoxide is that it has no smell, which means that the presence of its vapors in the air is difficult to determine without special equipment. And it can appear anywhere. For this purpose, it is enough to have any combustion process. If there is not enough oxygen thickening near the combustion center, then there is every chance that toxic gas will form. Poisoning with poison occurs in an unexpected place, because for some time the victim does not feel that he is breathing steam at all.

Since the beginning of this year, 5 factors of carbon monoxide poisoning have been registered in the territory of Ulansky District, 5 people have been hospitalized in the district hospital.

Symptoms of carbon monoxide poisoning include dizziness and headache, blurred consciousness, suffocation, muscle weakness, ringing in the ears, nausea, vomiting, drowsiness. Sometimes, on the contrary, for a short time there is an activation of movement, followed by a violation of movement, delirium, hallucinations, fainting, convulsions, unconsciousness, death from the formation of the respiratory center. If the victim's breathing is not provided with fresh air in a timely manner, it is quite possible that he will die. Severe carbon monoxide poisoning can remind you of yourself in an unpleasant way even 15-20 days after the event.

The most common sources of toxic gas are exhaust gas and oil furnaces, solid fuel furnaces, gas appliances, water heaters, and engines. Cracks in stoves, clogged chimneys, and exhaust pipes can cause toxic gas to spread to residential areas. Insufficient access of fresh air to the stove also affects the accumulation of toxic gas inside the House. Narrow structures of houses also increase the risk of carbon monoxide poisoning, as they do not provide free ventilation.

To prevent carbon monoxide poisoning, it is necessary to observe the following measures::

- inspection and repair of stoves in the house on the eve of the heating season;

- Whitewashing of all chimneys and walls through which they pass;

- regularly, at least once every two months, clean chimneys and stoves from soot accumulated inside;

- when using the furnace, do not close the shutter until the coal is completely burned;

- do not burn coal in an indoor Firebox;

- do not use gas stoves or stoves for heating the House;

- do not sleep in rooms where gas appliances are used

- when using gas appliances, install and turn on the air pump.

- always ventilate rooms where gas appliances are installed;

If we follow the above recommendations, we will prevent cases of carbon monoxide poisoning of people and significantly reduce the number of domestic fires in the private housing sector.
