Extinguishing a fire caused by an electric source

Extinguishing a fire caused by an electric source

1. Disconnect the burning wiring from the power source - unscrew the plugs or turn off the automatic protection if it is in an apartment or a private house, disconnect the battery if the ignition occurs in the car, and so on. After that, extinguish the fire with an existing fire extinguisher or by any means at hand: water, sand, snow in winter, etc.

2. A fire extinguisher, on the body of which there is an indication that it is allowed to extinguish fires of class E (fires of electrical installations), if for some reason it is not possible to de-energize the wiring. Usually, carbon dioxide fire extinguishers, powder (not all), some aerosol and the like are used for such purposes.

3. Earth or sand, if the wiring is not de-energized.

4. Snowballs. Yes, yes, seriously. The burning outdoor wiring in winter can be extinguished with snowballs - they are quite effective when they get into the gorenje, safe in terms of electric shock, and if the burning wiring is closed, they can cause it to turn off as a result of the short circuit protection - automatic or fuse insert.

REMEMBER: in no case should water, air-foam and chemical foam fire extinguishers be used to extinguish anything under tension!
