Remember about safety when bathing at Epiphany

In the period from January 18 to January 20, the Orthodox world celebrates the feast of the Epiphany, or Epiphany. On Epiphany Eve and on the very day of the Epiphany of the Lord, the rite of the Great Consecration of water is performed in all Orthodox churches after the Divine Liturgy. According to an ancient belief, on this day all water becomes holy and heals any ailments.

Traditionally, on this day, many people rush to natural springs to join the sacred waters.

In order for the holiday not to be overshadowed by an accident, the Emergency Department of the Ulan district warns about the safe conduct of the celebration of the feast of the Epiphany.

In this regard, employees of civil protection services urge bathers to observe the following rules:

- before swimming in the ice hole, warm up the body by doing a warm-up, jogging;

- it is necessary to approach the hole in comfortable, non-slip and easily removable shoes to prevent loss of sensitivity of the feet. It is better to use boots or wool socks in order to reach the hole. It is possible to use special rubber slippers, which also protect your feet from sharp stones, and also prevent you from sliding on ice. On the way to the ice hole, it must be remembered that the path can be slippery, so you should go slowly;

- make sure that the ladder for descent into the water is stable. At least, for safety, it is necessary to lower the edge of a strong thick rope with knots into the water so that people can use it to get out of the water. The opposite end of the rope must be securely fastened to the shore.

Not recommended:

- bathing without representatives of rescue services and medical workers;

- bathing children without parental or adult supervision;

- dive into the water directly from the ice;

- pollute and clog the font;

- drinking alcoholic beverages, swimming in a state of alcoholic intoxication;

- bring dogs and other animals with you;

- give false alarm shouts;

- drive up to the font by motor transport;

- do not dive into the hole headfirst, experts advise. Jumping into the water and diving into the water with your head is not recommended, as this increases the loss of temperature and can lead to shock from the cold;

- when entering the water for the first time, try to quickly reach the depth you need, but do not swim, you should not stay in the hole for more than 1 minute to avoid general hypothermia of the body. In addition, there should not be more than 20 people near the ice hole at the same time;

- it is forbidden to swim in a group with more than 3 people at the same time. After bathing (dipping), rub yourself with a terry towel and put on dry clothes. Remember, your safety is in your hands!
