The basic rules of driving in icy conditions

In winter or off-season, the safety of drivers in icy conditions depends not only on the driving style, but also on the condition and serviceability of the car itself. Special attention should be paid to studded winter tires. Keep an eye on the serviceability of the "wipers" and the condition of the headlights.

Use a non-freezing liquid. It should be remembered that ice often occurs at public transport stops, overpasses, bridges or on suburban highways.

According to some signs, it is possible to predict the appearance of an icy area and prepare for it: low air temperature contributes to ice. If the windows in the cabin are fogged up, then, most likely, it has become colder outside, and there may be ice ahead.

The change in the tread noise and the feeling that the car is not driving, but "floating" also says that you are on an icy stretch of road.

Safety in case of ice on the road depends on how correctly and coolly you will react. There are the following recommendations for motorists:

- it is forbidden to perform sudden braking and release the gas pedal. Turning off the clutch also falls under the ban. These actions will only lead to the fact that your car will take out of the road.

- do not let the steering wheel out of your hands, but do not turn it sharply in different directions.

- when overcoming the ascents, slightly increase the speed so that you do not have to change gear in the process.

- be sure to keep your distance

- do not resort to sudden maneuvers during overtaking.

- in an emergency situation, the use of a handbrake can help out.

Remember that the winter road is not a place for dashing, arguing and identifying who has a cooler car. Polite interaction of motorists is at the heart of safe driving.
