Baptistic rites

On January 19, Orthodox Christians will celebrate the Feast of the Epiphany.  On this day, according to tradition, people dive into an ice hole or douse themselves with cold water on the street.  On the territory of the city of Ridder, the local executive body has identified 4 official places for mass bathing, these are:

  1. St. Nicholas Church on the street. Kuznechnaya 7 – 2 places;
  2. Unexpected joy on the street. Dreyman 5 – 1st place;
  3. Zhuravlikha River in the Harbor area - 1st place;

Civil protection, local police and ambulance personnel will be on duty at all of these locations.

On the eve of the holiday, the Emergency Management Department of the city of Ridder reminds safety rules for those wishing to swim on Epiphany.

The bathing ritual can only be carried out in specially equipped places where rescuers and ambulance doctors are on duty;

  • before swimming you need to do a warm-up, warm up your body;
  • it is necessary to approach the ice hole in comfortable and easily removable shoes;
  • It’s best to plunge up to your neck, without getting your head wet, to avoid constriction of the blood vessels in the brain;
  • you cannot drink alcohol;
  • bathing children is allowed only with their parents;
  • after ablution, you need to rub yourself with a terry towel and drink hot tea.
  • It is not recommended for people with chronic diseases to swim.
