So that the Christmas tree does not cause a fire

In order for the Christmas tree to decorate the house and not cause a fire on holidays, rescuers of the Emergency Department of East Kazakhstan Region told what rules should be followed:

1. Give preference to Christmas trees with fire protection impregnation - usually this information is indicated on the packaging.
2. The Christmas tree is installed on a stable stand, away from heating devices
3. Use only serviceable factory-made electric garlands
4. It is forbidden to decorate the Christmas tree with candles, cotton wool, paper and celluloid toys
5. If a malfunction is detected in the illumination – heating of wires, flashing of light bulbs, sparking, it must be urgently turned off. You should also turn off the garlands at night and when leaving the room.
6. It is better to provide the room where the Christmas tree is installed with primary fire extinguishing means (fire extinguisher, sand, koshma).

What should I do if an electric garland lights up on the Christmas tree?

Turn off the power to the garland. If the fire is small, try to deal with it yourself. First of all, knock the tree to the floor so that the flame does not rise up, and cover it with a thick cloth.  Do not use water in any case. If the Christmas tree is artificial, synthetic materials melt and spread during the burning process, and water getting on the burning surface will lead to splashing of burning droplets, therefore – to an increase in gorenje gorenje), cover the flame with sand or use a fire extinguisher.

If the fire could not be dealt with within the first minutes, leave the room, take people out and call rescuers by phone 101 or 112.
