The marriage and family legislation of the Republic of Kazakhstan is based on the principles of voluntary marriage (matrimonial) union of a man and a woman, equality of rights of spouses in the family, priority of family upbringing of children, care for their development and well-being. Currently, the marriage registration period is one month, the registration authority, if there are valid reasons, documented, reduces or increases this period. Considering that upon entering into marriage, many couples wish to shorten the period of marriage registration and confirm their desire with documents. In this regard, in order to optimize the timing of marriage and eliminate barriers to starting a family on the initiative of the Ministry of Justice of the Republic of Kazakhstan, the Law of the Republic of Kazakhstan «On Amendments and Additions to Some Legislative Acts of the Republic of Kazakhstan on stimulating innovation, digitalization, information Security and education» dated 14.07.2022. the terms of marriage (matrimony) have been shortened from one month to fifteen calendar days from the date of submission of an application to the registration authority by those wishing to enter into marriage (matrimony). Amendments to the order of the Ministry of Justice of the Republic of Kazakhstan come into force on 15.08 this year.
The norms on the possibility of shortening or extending the term in the presence of special circumstances (pregnancy, birth of a child, immediate danger to the life of one of the parties and other special circumstances) at the request of those entering into marriage (matrimony) are also preserved.
