The international specialized exhibition "EXPO-2017" with the theme "Future Energy", held in the capital of the Republic of Kazakhstan in the period June 10 – September 10, 2017, has become one of the most significant projects of independent Kazakhstan. 115 countries and 22 international organizations demonstrated their achievements in the "green" energy at this platform. The exhibition was visited by more than four million people-twice as many as planned.
On June 10, 2011, in Paris, the future commissioner of the exhibition Rapil Zhoshybayev handed over the official application of Kazakhstan for participation in EXPO-2017. A year later, following a secret ballot at the 152nd General Assembly of the International Exhibition Bureau, Astana won the majority of votes (103 out of 161), leaving behind the Belgian city of Liege. Until that time, international exhibitions of such a scale had never been held in the Central Asian region. This was another proof of the growing authority of independent Kazakhstan on the world stage.
The first President of the Elbasy, Nursultan Nazarbayev, called EXPO-2017 a new peak in promoting the country's brand in the global space.
