Fishing Safety Tips

The Kurchum district, Kurchum village, in cooperation with the Ministry of Emergency Situations, advises caution during winter fishing:

  • Leave vehicles on the shore.
  • For pedestrians, the ice thickness should be at least 7 cm. The ice should be clear.
  • Go out on the ice only during daylight hours.
  • Avoid areas where vegetation is visible on the ice, where streams flow, or where there is a thick snow cover.
  • Always take a mobile phone, spare clothes, and a rope 12-15 meters long. Attach a loop at one end, and a weight of 400-500 grams at the other. In case of emergency, throw the weighted end, and rescuers will be able to help you.
  • Move across the ice in a staggered formation, with an interval of 5-6 meters between individuals. Return to the shore along the same path you took out onto the ice.
  • Carry your gear in a way that allows you to quickly free yourself in case of a fall through the ice.
  • Do not gather in large groups on a small area of the ice.
  • Do not drill too many holes in a limited area; the distance between the holes should be at least 5-6 meters.
  • If you fall through the ice, try not to panic.
  • First, pull one leg out of the water, then the other.
  • Once you are on the ice, carefully crawl to a safe area.

When using watercraft, the following is prohibited:

  • Using technically faulty equipment.
  • Setting out without life-saving and water drainage equipment.
  • Overloading the watercraft.
  • Setting out in a state of intoxication.
  • Allowing children under 16 to use watercraft without adult supervision.
  • Sitting on the sides of the watercraft or moving from one place to another on it.
  • Using watercraft at night.

In case of an emergency, call 112 or 101.
