The Dangers of Carbon Monoxide!

The Dangers of Carbon Monoxide!

Carbon monoxide is a treacherous poison. It silently and quickly affects the human body by binding to the hemoglobin in the blood. The consequences of carbon monoxide poisoning include severe diseases of the nervous system and respiratory organs. Delayed help for victims can even lead to death.

To avoid carbon monoxide poisoning, be extremely cautious when operating heating equipment and always adhere to fire safety regulations.

Before the heating season begins, every homeowner should inspect their heating system. Chimneys and stoves should be cleaned of soot, repaired, and whitewashed with lime or clay solution to detect any cracks caused by passing smoke. Weak chimney draft and insufficient air supply can lead to incomplete combustion of fuel, resulting in the formation and accumulation of carbon monoxide. Do not close the stove damper if the fire or embers are still burning. The fireplace or stove should be shut down at least two hours before going to bed.

In winter, it is mandatory to inspect chimney caps at least once a month to prevent freezing and blockages. Also, hire a chimney sweep to clean the chimneys from soot at least once every three months. If the stove or fireplace is operated and maintained properly, the amount of carbon monoxide produced during fuel combustion is usually not dangerous.

Remember! Dear residents and guests of the East Kazakhstan region, following fire safety requirements will help protect you from carbon monoxide poisoning and reduce the risk to your life.
