Carbon monoxide during the heating season

During the heating season, cases of carbon monoxide poisoning have become more frequent.

This can happen unnoticed, because it has neither color nor smell. Poisoning can be caused not only by a fire (CO is formed in the air as a result of combustion), but also by poor ventilation, in garages, especially if you leave the engine running in a small room. There are frequent cases of carbon monoxide poisoning due to untimely closing of the stove dampers or in the absence of a normally circulating hood from gas water heaters. The first signs of such poisoning are headache, dizziness, lacrimation, cough, nausea, and vomiting. In case of moderate poisoning, drowsiness appears. At high concentrations, loss of consciousness and paralysis occurs. And if the gas concentration in the air is more than 1.2%, a person dies in a few seconds. The cause of carbon monoxide poisoning is also a violation of the rules for operating stoves.
In order to avoid carbon monoxide poisoning, emergency personnel, together with PCh-30 of the Kurchum district, conducted 1,625 door-to-door visits with a total coverage of 3,136 people, and distributed 2,103 leaflets.

Employees of the Kurchum district emergency department remind you that you should not close the stove damper prematurely (until the coals are completely will burn out). In this case, you need to heat the stove at least two hours before going to bed. Do not use gas household appliances and apparatus (for example, gas stoves) for heating premises. An open flame burns out oxygen in the room, and it becomes insufficient for normal operation of the burners. Due to lack of oxygen, the gas does not burn completely and carbon monoxide is formed. Staying in a room whose air contains 0.2% carbon monoxide for 1 hour is harmful to health, and if the air contains 0.5% carbon monoxide, being in a room for 5 minutes is life-threatening.
