On April 29, 2025, Örken East Kazakhstan Regional Scientific and Methodological Center for Informatization and Education Development of Education Administration of East Kazakhstan region, jointly with Tamara V. Barysheva, a teacher of history and a researcher of Lyceum School No. 34 of Education Department of Ust-Kamenogorsk city of Education Administration of East Kazakhstan region held a history digital lesson for 8th graders under the social project on the theme: “My great-grandfather told me about the war”. More than 1,500 school students from across the region joined the lesson online.

The lesson touched upon various aspects of Kazakhstan’s role in the key events of the Second World War and the Great Patriotic War, exploring individual families’ experiences during that difficult time for our country. Students worked in pairs and groups, staying actively engaged with the online student audience.

The lesson aimed to promote the opportunities of vertical integration based on research activities and educational materials of the State Standard on the History of Kazakhstan for 8th graders. The goal of the event was to raise students’ awareness about the history of the Great Patriotic War and explore the impact of the tragic events of the history of our country on individual families.

The participants of the lesson had the opportunity to share personal stories on the history of the Great Patriotic War and talk about their family members - veterans and heroes of the Second World War, home front workers, members of the partisan movement. When studying and repeating topics on the Great Patriotic War, this vertical integration helped connect key historical events with the fates of individual families in the process of students’ research activities.
